First new album in 40 years. Blows my mind. They used motion capture and made them look 40 years younger in 3D. https://youtu.be/OE8aSnhzTfQ
The last couple of minutes of concert footage from the 2nd video is the 3D ABBA members recreated singing the new song.

I wonder if they will do a digital concert in Fortnite too, love the models.
but
am more impressed by their awesome voices!!!
What's Fortnite?
I could cry for multiple reasons. Positive and negative. Seeing the idols of my youth aged like this with the clear traces of life on their faces makes me melancholy and a little sad. Of course, we all age, but these four have not been seen for so long, so it comes as a surprise. But it makes me happy that they have managed to come together once again and revive the "old spirit" together. I didn't know how they were going to realize the performances, but now with the new technology it really makes sense. They appear as if from a time capsule, it's magical. Also musically they pick up where they left off and fortunately they have not "reinvented". And what makes me especially happy, our all beloved medium 3D really comes to honor here and maybe also paves a little bit the way to acceptance and recognition. This is already really well done. This hair!!!!
Only the eyes seem a bit inanimate to me and the lip sync is not perfect either. But maybe these videos are just a little insight. I look forward to more and also to the album.
Thank you @Fauvist
Made me cry too. Remembering what the world used to be like, and what it's become.
I agree. I was a rock musician for 20+ years and now that I am older I see some of my idols/influences still trying to make a living at it, even though most of them are way past their prime and it makes me glad I quite when I did. .
I love ABBAs music and find this concept kinda cool. look forward to seeing how it works for them and future applications.
They still sound great. They still sing great & in harmomy. I hope with their age though it's not going to be all slow ballots but some new tunes that are dancable like Dancing Queen, Take a Chance on Me, and lots more. Sad to say though radio programmers and those types are likely to stonewall them. It's a good thing YouTube is around. Also, I'll be interesting in seeing if and where to go on concert to.
ILM is doing the work on it and they did the first video to begin the promotion of the Voyage concert which will be the avatars and a live 10 piece band, It has been in production for a while now, The first show will be in late May in London. The new album is out later this week. 3 songs have been released out of the ten on YouTube. The CG work makes them look like they did in 1979. The 4 ABBA members spent five weeks in motion capture suits several months ago and recorded new vocals of their hits as well.
I need a VPN so I can watch that![blush blush](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/embarrassed_smile.png)
A lot of celebrities from Sweden know how to age gracefully - not only ABBA, but I'm remembering Liv Ullman, Ingrid Bergman, and even Greta Garbo. There's not a lot of vanity there. And turning down a BILLION dollars for a concert tour is a real accomplishment. The new song is beautiful.
Oh wow that new song is so very emotional, I remember when I was growing up listening to them on the radio and tv here in Australia.. And now in my 50's it is great to see them working together again..
Well, they are around my age (or older) and they look better than I do.
Coincidentally, I watched the Happy Holograms episode of South Park just a couple of days ago.
Those 3 new songs sound great. I was wondering if I would go see such a thing as a digital ABBA in concert but seeing the hints of the production on YouTube, yep, I would, well if within my budget of course. I'm liable to have to travel a few hundred miles to go as well. Which brings up the question would one or the shows be available as a sort of VR headset concert?
I think the Voyage experience is going to be really cool. It's part concert film, part theme park-style attraction.
What really make the ABBAtars work is the motion capture was all them. It's their body language and movements, their unique facial expressions, that are the basis for the animation.
I was too young for disco but managed to catch on to ABBA's timeless hits. Thanks to the magic of YouTube, I have been catching up on their songs. "Move On" and "Under Attack" are two songs I think are under appreciated.
Do you think we'll see the ABBA girls mentioned in the Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures forum?
Cheers!
I enjoyed that a lot.
thanks for the posting
Gimme, gimme, gimme a digital Agnetha Abbatar after midnight ;)

Great! Waiting for Anni-Frid then.
Cheers!
Why couldn't they have kept the ABBA human's real life eyes? The eyes in the 3D reproduction have no "soul". They reveal the fakeness. If they had 650 cameras filming them for 5 weeks, and they captured every nuance of them - couldn't they keep the human eyes and just fake the rest of them? If their actual eyeballs revealed their current (advanced) age - they could have digitally retouched them (like they do on a fashion magazine cover). Maybe it just never occured to them?
I get the feeling that this is a project the two guys are taking on for strictly exercising their curiosity and the challege of getting this done to their own personal technical production satisfaction.
Cool video although it made me a bit sad as well. Sad to see iodols of my youth aging and sad to remember times when everything wasn't so insane. I grew up in the UK and remember sitting in the living room watching them win the Eurovison Song Contest. Mind you, we were rooting for The New Seekers! Little did we know then how big ABBA would become!
My understanding of the project from what's been said is it's still an ongoing project and much has not been done or finished yet. ILM did the first video as sort of a demo and they had to get it done fast and first for the special announcement last September. I'm sure they are still tweaking everything as they do with their movies and probably will until the deadline in May for the first show.
New concert trailer
Woo "Summer Night City" yeah! Folks here are going to lick their chops trying to deconstruct the hair sim!![laugh laugh](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
I know the Abbatars were modeled on their 78/79 personas. Did Anni-Frid ever tie her hair back?
Remaining tickets available for the concert in London are starting at $743 each, at least for the opening date. $212 for a random date in August.
Way out of my league![laugh laugh](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
I grew up with ABBA and their songs, this evokes so many memories within me. And the new songs are really great and full of promises for the album to come.
Then the whole Avatar / ABBAtar thing is new ground, so I fully understand that not everything is perfect. But I bet soon we're going to see artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie, Whitney Houston etc revived like this. And even those alive and kicking like Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and Diana Ross might want to do the same thing. Ah - the fountain of youth, even though in a virtual form.
And it's fun to see ABBA look like superheroes and Björn resembling Loki. Why do we need the Eternals when we have ABBA?
Necrothread!
First 'live' concert today,
6 years in the making. Purpose built London, England venue. De-aged Abbatars (yes, really) by ILM. Facial MOCAP by band members during recent studio perfomances. Status of vocals ambiguous - new, old, live, studio, mixture?
Are DAZ marketing on this? It'll raise awareness and there will be a bunch of people looking for a furbaby construction kit. Bless his little murderous cotton socks.
DAZ has dabbled with 'celebrity' likenesses in the past with Anne-Marie Goddard and Reby Sky... Could we get 70s ABBA for G8? Three quarters of them were pretty hot, but one looked like a cornflake found under a fridge. Maybe a bundle then.
bit ambitious budget wise
With a plat club membership and a sale I reckon I could manage.![smiley smiley](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
It looks like the concert came out a few days ago! Here's a live video a from a fan
You be judge how good the CG magic is.
Cheers!
