Did IRay change how it renders hair transparency maps?

I've noticed that older hair products seem overly faded, like too much transparency is applied to them, during iRay renders in recent years. I have corrected this in one instance by adjusting the transparency map in PhotoShop.

Anyway, it makes me wonder whether iRay had changed the way it renders hair transparency some years ago.

Also, it makes me wonder whether there is some product someone made to automatically update legacy hair transparency maps to fix this.
