Is there such a thing as 3D 'swirls'?

Imagine a drop of teal liquid dripping from a science lab-type vial into a beaker of fuchsia liquid ... I'm using a 3-d drop I grabbed somewhere, and think I have a 3-d splash somewhere (shall look), but I'm fairly certain I don't have a 'swirl'. Sure, I could photoshop it in, but for my assistant at the publishing house who doesn't draw, it would be cool to show her how she could do the effect within Daz. Any ideas?

I'm not sure you could do it entirely in Daz3d; it would be child's play to do it in Daz studio and Hexagon or Carrara:

    1. Choose your flask
    2. Export as obj
    3. Import into modeler
    4. Create a primitive block and perform a Boolean operation to cut flask shape top to make a fluid level... do it at an angle so it looks like the liquid is at an angle
    5. Create a primitive cone and flip 180 degrees
    6. Select the big side top of the cone and rotate 270 degrees to make a vortex; scale, angle to fit in your flask fluid volume
    7. Perform a Boolean operation and separate vortex from flask fluid
    8. Export as a new obj
    9. Import into Daz Studio, add water shader, scale, and parent to flask interior, add and parent a little catch light
    10. Pose flask in hand

There is this prop seems pretty versatile as swirls go not sure if it is what you are looking for but is an option.

There is also this which allows you to create liquid effects in DAZ studio: https://www.daz3d.com/fluidos-ii-for-daz-studio

I almost understand that ... Would you be interested in doing a video tutorial using Hexagon?

Not for this, but I so could have used this on my last project! Definitely going in the cart for future projects.

Good idea now that I know how to import items to my 'Other Import Formats' content library. thanks :)

Possibly you could use Ron's Ink.  https://www.daz3d.com/ron-s-ink

Actually ... I have that ... thanks for the reminder. I have way too much stuff, lol.

  • SickleYield converted a bunch of Spacebones' liquid props to a Daz format here:

Not sure if those cover what is needed, however.

Perhaps something like this?  I didn't spend much time putting this together, so it may be too rough for your needs.

    Here's what I used:

SY Rigged Water Poured (with the splash part visibility off)

       DAZ primitive cylinder

DCCTV Turbulent Cloud A (low poly)

some liquid Iray shaders for the cylinder, cloud, and pouring water prop (adjusted opacity settings on the cloud and cylinder to get enough transparency.)

Like I mentioned, a very rough and quick test to give another option for the liquid swirls. :)

  • I did one more test and swapped the colors on each set of liquids.  Rendered at a little higher resolution.  The blue liquid reflects a bit more light which is more interesting than my first test.

Of course, this only works with transparent/translucent materials.

I also left the cloud sitting very slightly above the top of the cylinder, but probably should have completely submerged it or lowered it a wee bit more above the surface.

Anyway, I hope this inspires someone.

Awesome ... saves me having to remember to look in that third directory :) Thanks :)

Those look really good :) I'm using a drop rather than a pour, but that merging looks great for my needs. I hadn't thought of clouds, but have been thumbing through my content for smoke puffs, though most of those are planes, which aren't my first choice.
