how do you use simulation setting presets?

With a few hairs of mine I have tried to apply the hq settings option it comes with but it doesn't make any difference. I will simulate twice with different settings and will still get the same results. I don't know what to apply them to? I have tried just clicking them, tried clicking them with surfaces selected, i don't know what else to do. I can't really click it with simulation settings open...

    The chnages are made to the Simulation Setings pane, so you dion't need to have anything in particular selected.

     Then why is it that when I click the hq settings from the content library nothing changes in my simulations and the hair remains the same?

    What happens if you click the Defaults button in Simulation Settings, then apply the preset?
