hey all

came across the V5 Ivy Tattoo that is applied through the geo shell last night and liked the results....would like to try other designs using this method and haven't found any info on how to make a material preset of a tattoo design to be used by the geo shell.

the other thing is I'm wondering is if this way of applying tats effects the appearance of the skin.... or is that not a problem if the geo shell has the same settings as the skin textures?

thanx

If you have a tattoo image and a mask for it, apply the tattoo to the Geometry Shell as diffuse and the mask as Opacity and it should overlay the figure cleanly - remember to turn off the visibility for the parts of the shell you don't need. Using an image that isn't already set to apply to the target figure using one of its UV sets will be trickier as you will need to position the image on the surface - and avoid the seam areas (or make a new UV set that is flat and seamless where you want to apply the tattoo).

    thanks for the reply Richard

well I have the tattoo image but am not sure what a mask file is....would I generate this myself using Daz or with some other program like GIMP?

and how would I turn off the visibility for parts of the shell I don't need?...I render with Reality 2.5 and I wonder if ticking off Null on those parts would achieve that?

and positioning the image is done how?....I positioned a few tatts using the LIE ability....any similarities?

I'm not how well reality supports hiding parts of a shell, in DS it's possible to simply turn them off. A mask is just a black and white silhouette of the image - black where the skin should show through, white where the image should be fully opaque and shades of grey between.
