How to make characters deform due to collision with props or other characters?

Is it possible to make a character deform due to collision with another character or prop?  For example: Characer A is poking character B with a finger and a stick.  The skin of character A should dimple in where the finger and stick make contact.  All the turtorials I have seen only indicate a way to make props deform due to contact with a character.  None of them indicate a way to make the shape of the character respond to an object or another character.

You could try Ghost Dynamics. It's not automatic, but should do what you want.

Natively, you could try hammering out a halfway decend solution with a smoothing modifier, push modifier, or dForce modifier on the figure, but frankly learning how to export to Blender and sculpt your own morphs is a better use of your time.

add a smoothing modifier to the figure and play with the collision and/or smoothing illiterations. it's not perfect, but unless you are willing to invest a ton of time learning a modeling app, it's the best solution inside DS.

D-Former.  It's under the tools menu.  It's a bit tricky to get figured out and results may vary.

  • Try Mesh Grabber....

  • Thanks everyone!  I will try your suggestions.

Mesh grabber is your easiest bet. It'll do what Ghost Dynamics does with much more accuracy except it's not HD.
