Export for Second Life

Hi, I've been watching videos about creating and exporting animations/poses for second life. The videos I'm finding are froum around 2012. Obvioulsy the interface has changed some since then. In the videos I've found there is a check box in the export window called, "Second Life Compatibility." I'm not seeing that in the current version export window. Am I missing something?

  • I'm pretty sure that's not allowed. but you would be better of filing a ticket and asking Daz's customer service to get an official answer.

If you create your own poses and animations, it most definitely is.

    You're not missing anything.

As far as i can find, DS hasn't, ever, directly supported export to SL.

Checking my old 3.1 version there's no option for SL compatibility in any of the export options.

Depending on the vid, they might have been using a plugin or a script that provided that support.

Check their description for any notes about that.

  • back in the day, 2009, I was new to the internet and 3D

I dabbled in Secondlife and tried making my own animation in DAZ with their compatible avatar, PowerPose and Puppeteer

I got kicked out of a dance party for fighting because apparently my dance moves looked like fighting blush

If I remember correctly,  The use of any Daz Asset in Second Life is strctly forbidden under the EULA.

Second Life (irrc) have something that states they automatically own anything uploaded to SL; that would explain why Daz have such a condition.

To export animations to Second Life, with DazStudio, you must use suitable characters in CR2 format.

You will find these characters at the following address:
    https://outworldz.com/Secondlife/Posts/Mesh-Avatar/

    There are 4 files:
    SL_Female.cr2
    SL_Female.obj
    SL_Male.cr2
    SL_Male.oj

Here, we tell you how to do it:
    https://www.juicybomb.com/2012/11/how-to-make-poses-in-second-life/

Using these characters, you don't need to check any box, with the new version of DazStudio.

However, the animations that you will then import into Second Life will not be compatible with the new Bento format.
As a result, only the legs, arms and head will be animated. Hand fingers and facial expressions will not be taken into account.

To make animations with the new Bento format, you can use Blender with the Avastar plugin.
Avastar allows you to create fitted clothing and also animations.

  • I know this is a bit late, once or twice a year I teach a class on daz studio. I also teach upon request. Most of my classes are at Builders Brewery. Here's the schedule. http://www.buildersbrewery.com/calendar/index.php.  I was looking for a bento model for daz as that's often requested, but so far no luck. I'm happy with teh animations I'm able to create for my classes. Hope to see you there.
