AprilYSH Bristol Hair - Wrong color rendered in Iray

Hi everyone,

I am trying to use AprilYSH Bristol Hair, with a blonde color in Iray. When I try to render it in Iray mode, the hair is dark.

Do you have any suggestions in order to fix this issue?

Thank you,

Don

  • Which version of Daz Studio (Help>About Daz Studio)? Does it look right in the non-Iray viewmodes?

The example renders of that product are using very bright overhead lighting

    Hey Richard,

    To answer your questions:

    1) I am using version 4.15.1.91 Pro for Windows (64-bit) Public Build.

    2) The hair is visible with white lines and a light blonde scalp in the textures and cartoon shaded modes.

Now, I have just seen in another thread that someone had the same issue, and someone proposed this:

"The fix for some of the pre-Iray hair is to select the diffuse map in the surfaces pane, select Image Editor, change Image Gamma from 1 to 0.  Repeat for the other maps."

    Source: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/110761/aprilysh-iray-hair-color-solutions

But I am not sure I understand what I have to do concretely (I am bit newbie), for instance, what is and where do I find the "diffuse map"? Some extra explanations would he helpful.

Thank you again for your help,

    D.

  • Diffuse is the base colour, it's called that in older, 3Delight shaders and so we tend to use the label even when it isn't correct - sorry.

Thank you - it makes sense, now!

Those instructions are for AprilYSH's older hairs, that she made before the introduction of Iray. They won't apply to something as recent as dForce Bristol Hair for Genesis 8

  • Thanks for letting me know, Chris. Would you have any other suggestions? Could it be the environment that needs more light?

Right now 4.15.1.91 has break a lot of non-Uber/PBRSkin shaders (render plain black surface). I think they are aware of the problem. Far I know, nothing much to do outside waiting for next beta (or downgrading).
