3060 with 12GB is a great GPU for Iray. depending on how complex your scenes are you should get some fast renders. I'm using a 1660ti 6GB and the previews are very fast even with hundreds of textures, but renders still call up my CPU for assistance. My concern in the 550W PSU and the standard cooling solution. As long as the airflow is good the cooling shouldn't be a problem, but the PSU may be a little strained.
if you havn't already done so go to
pcpartspicker.com
go to system builder and add those parts. it's going to give you better advice than I can.
Brilliant thank you very much I will do that, I am being treated to an awesome computer by my Awesome Mum/Mom I want to get the best value for her buck :)
...my one concern is the system memory for supporting the 3060. Optimally you would want triple the VRAM to use all 12 GB . Since hat is not . Also keep in mind that teh OS and system processes also take up memory along with anything else open (like a 2D programme or browser)
Instead of 4 x 8 GB you could go with Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-2400 for about 35$ more than the 32 GB kit.
(using PC PartPicker).
I'd do 2 16GB and you won't have to upgrade all 4 sticks to up your RAM. Just add up to 2 more to give you 64GB in total. Much cheaper in the longrun.
...that was the initial suggestion until I saw the price differential of 35$ between the original 4 x 8 GB memory specified in the OP (the same brand and speed), was only 35$ less than moving to 4 x 16 GB . A 2 x16 GB kit of the same memory is only 132$ at Newegg so that would be a savings over the 4 x 8 GB kit specified in the post at the top of the thread..
As to the drives I'd strongly consider going with a SATA SSD for the boot drive as they have come down in price The configuration I currently have is a 240 GB SATA SSD for the boot and a 2 GB SATA SSD for the Daz content library (1 TB will fill up fast), and a 2 GB HDD for misc. storage (like the Install Manager file download folder and rendered scenes).
With the savings of going with 2 x 16 GB, that would leave money for up to a 500GB boot SSD (It could even be enough for a Samsung 980 M.2 SSD which will boot even faster).
HDDs are generally better for secondary storage. and backup instead of the system's primary drive.
ah thank you I will take this advice on board, I appreciate all the help and advice that everyone has given me. I will go through my specs and type them again before I make the final decision. Thank you once again Andrea
Here is my updated specs on your recommendations I went to the site you recommended I must revisit them.

I think your first system was quite close. You've gone a bit too far into the past with an Athlon!
If you're UK based... I went with this one: https://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configurator/3xs-gamer-3060-amd
It has that super fast M.2 drive for the operating system and more importantly has the faster memory which Ryzen processors really like!
You could save a bit of money by choosing the next processor down and I recommend taking a step up in the choice of motherboard. Both of these would then match your original spec.
...I wouldn't back-step to an Athlon Duo core as for many other operations it will be slow only 2 cores/2 threads With a 3060 there really is no need for an APU. You would be better off with the Ryzen already specified. in your OP. The Ryzen 5 3600 is also supported by Windows 11. I would also stick with the GIGABYTE B550 GAMING X V2 motherboard and mid tower case as the A 320 Mini ATX only has 2 DIMMs instead of 4 which means you have to swap out the 16 GB sticks already installed for 2 x 32 GB ones (less cost effective than jsut adding another 2 16 GB ones later).
Looking for the price of the case (not sold here in the States) I see you went with PC Specialist as the specs are the same as listed above. in the pose just above.
Here is what I put together on their site:

Browser: Google Chrome or Firefox.
Total £1,241.67 ex. VAT £1,490.00 inc. VAT.
[I deleted all the lines that had "none" selected for components]
As you may have noticed I also added a 2 TB HDD for storage purposes to keep your Boot and Library drive as clean as possible
Not sure who provides the PCS branded components like the SSDs I would suggest opting for the Samsung 870 EVO 500GB SSD for the boot drive and Samsung 870 QVO 2 TB for the Daz Library as they are a reputable brand and have faster R/W rates. This would actually bring the price down to £1,226.67 ex. VAT £1,472.00 inc. VAT.
I recommend Widows 11 (which when I opened the configurator was already pre-selected) as you will not have to worry about upgrading when 10 reaches end of life. From my research I find it preferable to W10 as it has a better UI a few annoying features have been dropped, major updates will be faster and not as frequent and you can defer them for up to one year.
I would also recommend a 3TB external backup which can be partitioned between the Boot and Library drive
This system is would offer more years of service and allow for more opportunity to expand/upgrade (teh motherboard will support up to 128 GB which if you get more ambitious and add a more powerful card (like a 3090 or RTX 40xx whne those come out) later you'll easily have teh memory to support it.
It's decent, but I agree that more system RAM might be a good idea.
...indeed.
I'm running with a Titan-X and 24 GB (the P6T won't talk to the 3060 I have) and that's cutting it close. 3x VRAM is considered optimal but to get that you need 64 GB
Personally I wouldn't bother with water cooling a 5800X. The i7 I originally was had installed had a TDP of 130w and air cooling was more than sufficient even at peak loads when I was still rendering on the CPU. In comparison, The 5800X has a TDP of 105w.
The system I put together at PC Specialist with sual Samsung SATA III SSDs is about £85 less than the price of the build in the link but has twice the system memory and double the space for the Daz content library/runtime. I've experienced no issues with the dual boot/"library" setup I've been using, and it's also sort of a failsafe , for if one drive craps out you don't lose everything (though nothing still beats an external backup). Given the file sizes of some content today 1 TB is pretty easy to fill (I'm at about 1.3 TB out of 2TB already and thats without having reinsttalled most of the old "Poser only" content I have). I generally prefer to reserve the boot drive for just the OS, software, and system utilities.
The update I looking at for W11 uses a Ryzen 9 5900X which is fine with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 black. Of course I have 7 fans in the case including a 240 mm filtered Intake fan on the left panel by the GPU and dual top 120 mm fans for exhaust as well as a12mm fan at the rear. and system utilities
Thanks for your help on this my budget wouldn't stretch this far now, had to downscale, to be honest I would choke at spending this much on a computer that is probably only going to see an hour a day at most. So I am going to look over this quote and see if I can slim it down. Thank you xxx Andrea
I bought this system for my grandson. It is excellent, especially for the price and has a 3yr warranty. The mother board is the ASUS B550 Prime and the GPU is a Gigbyte RTX 3060 12G. It is still available. iBuyPower is a good company, they are easy to deal with.

Thank you Nakamuram I will look at that today. xxx Andrea
