Noob question about dforce

I've just started playing with dforce and run into 2 problems.

If I create a plain and add a bit of clothing in the air, I hit simulate and it just hangs there, as though it's draping itself around an invisible person, instead of falling to the floor like I expect. I've done some googling, and there are loads of examples that show this works, but none that tell me what I'm doing wrong.

The second issue is a little bit general. I have a clothed figure that I want to lay on a ground plain. I simulate over a timeline of 30 frames, and all starts off well, transitioning from the A stance to my target pose, but after a while the figures clothing "explode", making a really really strange looking image. The clothing is said to be dforce enabled. Is this just bad modeling or could it be something I'm doing wrong.

Thanks in advance.

  • Is the clothing made for dForce, or have you applied a dForce modifier? Even if it is made for dForce some areas may be excluded from the effect - whole surface groups by their settings or just parts of the geometry excluded with a weight-map.

Make sure that none of the non-dForce parts are intersecting themselves or each other - if they do the dForce mesh can get trapped and, with no way out, the simulation runs away and produce a mesh explosion.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for the response. The clothing in question is made for dForce. So would it be better if I applied a dForce modifier instead, or is there a way to check / change the weight-map?

Sorry, this is all a bit new to me.

  • Actually I think I've found it. I had a play with the Dynamics Strength in the surfaces window, and it seems to do the trick.

  • Yes, lowered Dynamic Strength on the surfaces is one way to fix things in place with dForce - glad you managed to get it working.

  • Thanks for your help.
