Face groups

I am currently rigging a prop for daz studio.
When I read tutorials on rigging (years ago), most said to assign all polygons not being used in your rigging, to one face group (default for example).
The object I imported before I started rigging had 4 different face groups.
Default was one of them, and a few others that were numbered basically.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there would be any benefit to assign all "unused" polygons to one group. (besides keeping things tidy)

groups can be useful, but they are not essential (and daz Studio does have a means to edit them). Face groups

I mainly use them for weight editing myself.
