If you appreciate ancient art, don't read the headlines tonight.

The headlines tonight, here: "Quebec judge wouldn't hear case of woman wearing hijab", "'Get me out of here,' aboriginal girl begged her parents before stopping chemo", "B.C. family mourns deaths of '2 beautiful sisters' just 10 days apart", and "Twinkle, twinkle little Ceres? Dwarf planet's bright spots shrouded in mystery"

I'm guessing you have different headlines... What's up?

    Oh, joy.

As if we didn't need further evidence that these ... (self-censors) ... idiots need to be put down, fast. Continue that line of so-called "reasoning" and they'd make software like Daz Studio and Poser illegal because we can make pictures of people with them.

And as much as I hate removing cultural treasures from their native lands, we may have to in order to preserve them.

This is not, alas, the first time this kind of thing has happened. The Taliban, in Afghanistan, destroyed several huge statues of the Buddha.

I know that this is a difficult subject to be calm about, but can you please try to keep from using inflammatory language when posting comments.

    Thanks

Absolutely horrible. Memory and beauty are so fragile. Destruction is so easy.

    This is a surprise?

Every single "cultural revolution" in history has done the same thing.

The Taliban have already been mentioned - but let's not forget the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, Mao in China, Lenin in Russia or the handful of popes that ordered the destruction or mutilation of "idols". The list is endless.

Throughout the entire western world - right now - historically significant art, statues and architecture are routinely destroyed or locked away because someone was offended by it.... and no one bats an eye except the local historical societies.

It only becomes news when the flavour of the day high profile bad guys do it.

I reserve my outrage for the thousands of men, women, and children who are being murdered and enslaved because they aren't the right sort of fanatic.

And the Romans burning the library at Alexandria.

    And the Visigoths destroying Rome.

    And the incessant holy wars.

And the Spanish destroying the Mayan libraries.

Barbarians all, when viewed from afar.

No, it's not surprising. Just sad that the human race has evolved so little. Thankfully I don't have to endure much more than 20 more years of this crap.

    Chohole,

    You are right. I apologise.

yep, sounds about right. Destroy that which contradicts your illusion to make that illusion believable, repeated many times in history.

It is sad that we strive to move forward, then occasional steps back happen. And to think how some historians use to say, they could not have done that, because it was not invented until recorded history. Yet how often has recorded history been, vandalized.

Isis, the Goddess of love, health, and healing. Dose not sound at all like this collection of, individuals. Perhaps more like "HD 209458 b". It's a terrible name, for a terrible place. At a location no self respecting planet should be, in an orbit radius of only 0.047 AU (or one eighth the radius of Mercury's orbit.). Estimated surface temperature of about 1,000 °C (about 1,800 °F). Forget global worming, this is global frying.

I do not agree nor sympathies with there methods, tho I can understand the distorted logic behind it. Look at what happened during the renaissance. The rediscovery of artifacts that predated the church, brought questioning of the way the world works. Guess what. The earth is not at the center of the world, there is something called plate tectonics, and there are them pesky fossils from a very long time ago (deep time). So it is in the best interest of the entity that wants to control people, to destroy anything that could call to question that entity.

That is the sad part, that there are people in the world that want to suppress and control others.
