Aren’t DS4 beta and DS4 general reales supposed to be separate installations? Installing DS 4.15 beta destroyed all my custom workspace and custom actions in the general version as soon as I restarted my PC. The installation was done by DIM and it last a whole day without modifying anything, until I restarted my PC this morning. All the panels, special menus I created with my own icons were removed. How independent are these installations really? Is there any way to backup the elements I lost for the next time I’m dumb enough to install a beta?

Hell. DIM and all the locations have also been overwritten and now does not attend to the list of installed that is in DIM manifest and has changed all the addresses to disk C which is an SSD when since more than a year I store on external disk U. Also deleted the custom content folders for DIM. All I did yesterday was install the 4.15 beta, uninstall and reinstall Hexagon and its beta and install through DIM a group of freebies that I had packaged. None of those things should modify DIM or the general release. It is not a crazy restoration of windows 10 because the only restore points are from a week ago.

  • They are separate, and if it lasted a whole day I doubt it was the isntalaltion of the ebta that caused the issue. If it showed after a restart my suspicion would be that the shutdown process didn't give the DS general release a chance to fiinish closing and as a rsult the layout files were corrupted. DIMM likewise uses an .ini file for its settings, so if that was corrupted by the restart you might have issues there as a result. Do you have back ups (e.g. Windows File History)? If so you should be able to restore the rpevious versions of the configuration files.

I close DIM at midnight and restart at the morning. Is it possible it hasn’t completed the closing in all that time? DS4 yes, I closed it five minutes before rebooting, so it may have been stuck in the reboot even though it did not appear among the tasks that worked at the time. I only have custom style backup, and that’s the only thing that survived.

  • Have the manifest files for DIM actually gone, or is it justbthat DIM doesn't know where they are 9if you were using a custom location)?

If DS has forgotten its original content directories that would break custom actions as it wouldn't find the targets - have you checked that? Where were the content and DIM data - have you checked that soemthing hasn't caused the drive letter to change?

DIM funtionalitty recovered, it was pointed to daz default folders in disk C instead my custom folders in disk U. I only needed set the correct paths. Fortunetelly manifest files were Ok.

DAZ Studio workspace was killed, the custom icons for actions, custom toolbars and menus, and custom pages of activities erased. Custom directories in disks U and Q are Ok, DS4 interfase custom color styles is Ok, data base is OK, content and metadata is Ok. Now I only need to know how backup activity pages, toolbars, actions and icons. Any guide about this theme will be welcome.

  • %AppData%/daz 3d/studio4/ (for the general release) or %AppData%/daz 3d/studio4 Public build/ (for the beta) contain the .dsx files controling the layout, and have a sub-folder with saved layouts.
