ContentFolder StructureIssues

Greetings! First, I do not know if someone has already made a duscussion like mine; IF it's already done, I am sorry that I make same content.

I am having problems with DAZ Studio (latest version as of November 2021) when saving. I let many many folder structures open in Contant Library.
Like Genesis 2 Male > Clothing > Basic Wear and Genesis 8 Male > Characters and many other folders stay open until I end DAZ Studio.
And I save VERY VERY often when I still work on my 3D content.

When I install DAZ Studio the first time, the open folder structures will be NOT closed after saving - no matter how many times I save.
But somehow, DAZ Studio begins to close all the opened fodler structures after I save my content. Saving emans then that all opened folders are closed exxept the last opened one.
Because of that I have to uninstall then install DAZ Studio, but it's annoying and boring.

After DIM installed new BETA of DAZ Studio, DAZ Studio and the BETA DAZ Studio do not remember the opened folder structures after I do a save.

I have a method when I work with my 3D content: I make always a temporary save before I thing the 3D content is ready to be saved as a complete file.
So I save very very often as "TEMPORARY" save (like: "My 3D Work.duf" and "MY 3D Work TEMP.duf"). And because DAZ Studio closes all the opened folder sturctures I have to open all again and then I do not remember which folders I opened already.

I am sorry if I can not explain my problems properly. My mothe rlanguage is not English.

I add a screenshot of the folder structure BEFORE saving. After saving all these opened folders get "closed" - except the last open one.

Thank you all for listening and to find help.

  • It looks like no one has that problem I have.
I searched in DuckDuckGo.com and on Daz3D.com site but found nothing about my problem.
I also deleted and re-installed DAZ Studio but same issues after DAZ Studio version 4.16.x.
I think it has to do with the newer version.

  • I think we don't understand your words. For instance what is an open folder struture?

Do you mean in Tree View or Side-by-Side (as opposed to List View)? I normally use List View, which only expands one folder at a time at any level, and Studio re-opens at the last used folder in Content Library. I think Studio can only remember the last viewed folder, not the state of all expanded trees.

  • First, I want to thank you both of you for answering. Second, my mother language is not English (and I don't use translators). I am sorry, if I could not explain myself properly.

I meant this: In "Content Library" the view is set as "View Side by Side". So, when I open, as examples:
"DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library >
     People > Genesis 8 Male > Materials > Base Materials > Iray"
    Then
"... > Poses > Base Poses" and do a save, DAZ Studio closes other folders except the one I used last.
I let many many folders and the subfolders open when I work.

Okay, yes, that is what I see when I try to do the same thing. Only the last used folder remains open in the Content Library. That appears to be the way Studio works, so while it may be inconvenient, is not really an error.

I did not mean it is an error. DAZ Studio did NOT closed every opened (sub)folders earlier, 'till DIM updated DAZ Studio to version 4.16 and the DAZ Studio BETA.
There must be something that forces the product to close all opened folders when saving. Maybe I did not deleted all 'leftovers' with DAZ Studio and DIM.

Thanks again for useful informations and I hope I will find soon a solution.

EDIT: By the way, DAZ Studio is one of the best 3D animation products that gives for free many products for beginners to begin with 3D animation.

  • All right, I think I am the only one with this problem. Since my last comments on December 05, 2021, it's almost one month. Nevermind, I found out, WHY it happened.
I uninstall DAZ Studio (via DIM) and ALL other products. Deleted all leftovers from Windows folders (PREFETCH folder too), then the Registry entries, then deleted via CC Cleaner every leftover.
Installed DIM and DAZ Studio Pro v4.16x and the products (all installed via DIM). But this time, I did not install the BETA version (like DAZ Studio BETA version x.x). I also did not install via DAZ Studio.

Now, when I save, all opened folders stay opened (in Content Library). I think the installation of BETA versions did the problems I had.
Thank you for trying to help me. I wish you all happy days.

  • The beta would not affect the release, and I'm nort sure that using Connect would make a difference (though ti is true that Daz Studio Formats>Daz Connect is a virtual container aggregating multiple real folders on disc).

I see it to. It seems that the interface is a little too big for the certain screen configurations. There is a scroll bar that you can manually move the windows. It used to work better.

  • @RichardHasletine: I do not know if it had to do with the Beta. I just thought, after I did NOT install the Beta DAZ Studio, everything works fine.I have not much knowledge with the program (DAZ Studio) and what DAZ Connect is for. I am learning it since years on my own. Of coruse, I make much things wrong. Because of that I am looking for help from users like you.

@Granville: Do you mean with big that when I have too many products installed, DAZ Studio can not handle them properly? I have just some products, mostly the ones I get with DAZ Stduio 4.x, Then some others, like characters, clothes, poses for Genesis 8 Males. I work with MALE characters only. By the way, what is the Scroll Bar exactly?

  • After 1 year, I have the same issues again. I think with almost every new version DAZ Studio 'brings this issues back'. I had since 5 months NO issues. But since Jnauary 2023, the same problems again.
Sadly, no interests or support related helps since 1 year here.

I would use the BETA but it's Iray render does not work. When I look in LOGS, it needs nVidia driver 5.22+, but it is for Windows 10. I use Windows 8.1 (and will use it). Normal DAZ Studio is 'happy' with nVidia driver 471.11+ and Iray render works.

ALL the folders close when I do a save - except the LAST folder that is opened last, remains open(ed).
To be clear: When I have opened many, many folder structures (what I do everytime), they get closed (except the last folder I have 'visited') after doing a save (no matter if Quick Save or Full Save).

I have then open all the folders aain when I am still at work with 3D stuff but after saving I must open these folders again.

    I REALLY NEED HELP! PLEASE!!!

You might have to stay with an older version of Studio if you want it to work like before. I hope you made backups of the installers. There will be some new features that you might miss out on, but that's evolution for you.

For Iray rendering, Studio updated the version of Iray it uses, which requires the new driver version, so, another reason to keep an older version of Studio. Many still use older versions of Studio because of hardware (older video cards) or software limitations (older OS).

Thank you for the answer, @northof45. I did not know that DAZ changes with newer versions important stuff. It means then that I even should not install BETA (because BETA versions want Windows 10, but I do not). What you mean by older version exactly? What version should I install with DIM? The older versions should support Genesis 8, because I use it only at the moment (to learn how to make 3D graphics in UHD).When I install older version I will not install newer versions then (when DIM shows updates)..

Genesis 8 has been around a long time, so older versions going back maybe 4 years would support it. You mentioned that you had Studio 4.16 working the way you wanted, so stay with that. Now, the question is, do you still have the installer for 4.16 that you used when you did your clean installation? If so, do that procedure again, and don't update it anymore. If you do not have it, and you cannot use the current version of Studio (i.e., no suitable Iray driver for your OS version), you will have to contact Customer Support to see what they can do, as DAZ only has the latest version available. Help Center (zendesk.com), sign in and Submit a Request, select Technical Support Questions from the first menu, then later, near the end, select Earlier Version Request. Explain why you cannot use the current version, and hope they are sympathetic. No guarantees...

Thank you for the VERY quick answer. The last version was, if I'm not wrong, November 2022. I think it was 4.20+. I had no problems with the folder structures when saving. Too bad, I have no older installer for DIM. I had to delete DAZ and everything I got from/with my account (including Genesis 9) (because I had to clean my Hard Drive).

Where can I download older DIM and or DAZ Studio products? I did search on the Internet but I found newer version 4.21+. A question: When I get older DIM product version do I have to uninstall DIM and everythin I downloaded? I do not want to do it because it takes sometimes too long to get all downsloads with my account (DAZ doawnloads at slow download (even so I have download limit up to 20 MB (I have 250.000 DSL).

  • Only Daz may suply you with an older version of Daz Studio 9and the Daz-branded plug-ins). If they do you would place them in the Downloads folder used by Install Manager, launch Install Manager to work offline, and install the older version from the Ready To Install tab.

thank you too, richard haseltine. i'm glad here are nice people to help.

this is not good news that only DAZ has older versions.
I wanted search Internet to get older versions but did not do it. I must ask daz help then (as northof45 said). But for what/which version should I ask? Version 4.20 worked well months ago.

Well, if 4.20 was okay, you can still use that. I understood 4.16. Whichever version you are happy with. Anyway, if you still have it, use it. You can't officially download older versions, unless provided by Customer Support (see my note about Help Center).

The version of DIM will not affect the performance of DAZ Studio. You can use the latest version of DIM with no problems. The content is also not affected by the Studio version, but some newer features might not be supported (maybe some encrypted scripts or plugins). You can leave your content alone, no need to uninstall.

Genesis 9 was released in October 2022, so the version of Studio available at that time should be enough, but you will be at the limits of compatibility. You may be able to support Genesis 9 now, but your version of Studio (and Iray) will not have any new features that become available in the future.

You can see the revision history of Studio here: Daz Studio Pro 4.21[.0.x] - Highlights - Daz 3D Forums. You can see what the changes will do to the functionality of Studio.

It doesn't matter what version of DIM (Daz Install Manager) you use. It has no effect on how Daz Studio operates. Are you using 64 bit or 32 bit version of Windows 8.1?

First, I want to thank you all.

To @northof45: I snet my problem to the support you gave the link with explanation. But, I must say, I was very consufed where and what to say! I also put the link to this forum page. Yes, DAZ worked with Genesis 9 installed (installed automacillay by DIM). I think G9 is made for DAZ 4.21+, or not? I am confused that Content Library folder structures did work fine till 2 week ago (I installed DAZ completely new and had deleted all downloaded products (within DIM). I normally do not delete when DIM downloads products. But from now on, I will always save downloads in extra folders (when DIM installs newer DAZ Studio (normal version)). But I had to clean my HD, like I said.

To @franko314: I own Windows 8.1 64bit (OEM that I got with my laptop ~6 years ago). I tried Windows 10 2 years ago but, oh man, what an awesome(!) OS! Spyware - Everywhere - Here and There!. . So, back to Win8.1.

  • I forgot:(i think these infos are important for my daz): Windows 8.1 (OEM), Intle i7 (4 core, 8 thread), 16 GB DDR3 System RAM, nVidia Geforece M GTX (6 GB dedicated RAM) but with so called "Optimus Hybrid!" with Intel HD (on-board) USELESS graphic card, (nVidia uses for DAZ its graphic card power, not intel).

  • Finally, no closing folder issues with DAZ Studio Pro anymore (installed within DIM today). I have not installed BETA. DAZ works nornal again when I do saves. I thhink it's the newest DAZ product version. I will save the downloaded product in an extra folder to avoid if DIM installs newer version that could/will/would have issues again. I still got no answer from the support, by the way.

THANK YOU for helping (all of you).
