Why don't cards have the same vram usage?

I understand that if a scene is bigger than a smaller gpu, then it will only utalize the bigger one. However, I have a rtx 3070 8gb and a 2070 super max q with 8 gb as well. When I render a scene, both wre being used. However, the 2070 uses 5.4 gb of vram while the 3070 uses 7.5 gb of vram. Any reason why it isn't using more of the 2070?

  • If this the total memory used or what Iray reports in the log file? Which, if either, is running your display? What usage do they show when Daz Studio is not running?

It may be because the 3070 gets more cuda cores so it's more vram for the working buffer. That is, the 3070 renders faster but also uses more vram to work. The more the cuda cores the more the vram. This is only a guess I have not verified anything.
