What Hair that is made for female figures do you find yourself using on male figures?

I was just messing around and i used a G8F hair on a male figure and it worked out great for what I was going for and I wondered if any of you found this benificial and what what hair you used on the guys.

I do this quite often with G8M figures if I need a longer style and there isn't a male equivalent in the store.  I have one character that I always envisioned with long, blonde, wavy hair, but none of the hair products for G8M seemed to match what I wanted.  Some of the male hair feels a little too "flat" to me, so I will look at the G8F styles and see if there's something closer to what I want.  I've also used a few G8M hair on female characters.  I use this one on G8M when I need a bit of length and volume.  https://www.daz3d.com/bronwyn-hair-for-genesis-3--8-females

Yes, I do this too. I also sometimes combine two different hair styles together to get a look that I want.

No problem!  Glad I could be of help!

  • I have, so far, never used female hair on males - I am surprised at how appropriate it can look. I shall try it out. Thanks. My usual unisex hair is this: https://www.daz3d.com/allen-hair-for-genesis-8, which seems to be really good on both sexes.

Actually, I find the short styles of Oso Textured very useful on males.

Realistically I have found that most male styles seem designed for Vicky and have a fit for her.

As long as the hairline is obscured  any hair will work.

Depressingly the quality of mens hair is fairly low sometimes so often womens hair is all there is.

Nearly every male hair in the store has a female hairline (so, essentially, they're almost ALL female hair anyway) but for VERY few exceptions. It IS depressing.

what do you mean by a female hairline?  are refering to a receding hair line?

Looks great! Specifically which D-force hair is that? Linday has so many in the store.

  • If you don't have armpit hair, one suggestion is to use a static hair piece for female anatomical elements and parent it to the shoulder region for armpit placement.

    I have done that before.

    I think they're referring to the shape of the hairline.  A more rounded hairline is common with women, while men can vary (the "M" shape is common).  While there are men with rounded hairlines, most of the men I know have "M" shapes.    Here's some examples. https://coolmenshair.com/types-of-hairlines/ ;

Edit: Also wanted to add, men's hairlines are generally positioned differently.

My wish is for LOWER hairlines. Even now, years later, I still have a small side business of creating custom birthday cards I print on card stock for kids birthday parties, nothing major, and nothing outside my small Wyoming area except for family out of state. But male hair gives kids ridiculously sized billboard foreheads. So many male hairs just doesn't look right on kids which is why I am so happy with some of the recently released younger characters in the store with hair that looks right on younger males. Even on adults, some of the hair here gives the 4-5 finger foreheads.

    It's this one - https://www.daz3d.com/classic-long-hair-with-dforce-for-genesis-8-females

Though I did replace the hair textures with Backlight shaders, which are my go-to. I also tweaked the dForce settings a bit so the hair would look a bit less voluminous and more weighed down. Lastly, if I remember right, I had to add a scalp in from another hair (just grabbed a random hair, I think it might have been from an AprilYSH hair) because the hair part was a bit too wide and he looked to need the help of some Rogaine, lol.

That is a gorgeous elf. I tend to render images and print them out of NPCs for the D&D group I DM to give visual references. Would you mind terribly if I used him for a new elven rogue NPC I will create?

I'll have to keep the scalp in mind.  I would have never thought to add a scalp!  I remember having a problem with a particular dForce hair and had to go edit his hairline in post.  It was so bizzare.  Used the same figure in another render with the same hair and no issue.  The scalp would have saved me time.

I agree. I  think if there were more adjustments to hairstyles for men I would really appreciate it. Special attention to the hairline would be great, especially in the front where the scalp and hairline is most obvious. There seems to be a lot of creativity with pasted on hair to hide the hairline, or lots of weird thick hairs in the front, but it often looks kind of strange in that region. It is made worse if the scalp of short hair has a unisex hairline. It just looks bad.

I agree more everyday styles would be nice, and if they are good for youthful people that would be nice.

I'm just tired of buying men's hair and getting a vicky-fit, and a lackluster male option with a covered hairline to hide the fact that the scalp is unisex.

  • @MelissaGT - Thanks for the info.

To everyone: since we're on the subject of men's scalps, recommendations for men's hair with more convincing scalps, either fibermesh or skullcaps? Since G8M is backwardly compatible, in this case suggestions could also be G1, G2M, or G3M, if need be.

The PA's that make some of the best male hairlines are Sarah Payne, Laticis and Neftis, at least in my experience ;) I still use a very short crew cut version of Really Short Hair for G2M all the time (Laticis).

Laticis is fantastic; I never tried Sarah Payne. Some of Neftis' men's hair have very deep receding hairlines and a weird spike in the middle of the forehead. Fortunately, not all men have these receding hairlines...

All hair products should offer the option to make the hairline lower or higher - like AprilYSH's do. Her models also have morphs to make the hairline wide or narrow. I wish this would become standard.

Sure, just don't remove my watermark or claim the piece as your own and we're cool. Not sure if you saw on the actual description that he's a WoW elf. He was a commission to do a friend's player character.

I use the tousled hair mens hair cap by redz  a lot of male styles. It is useful to parent other hair to.

I don't like neftis hair any longer. The quality is not there, the support is negligible. (Took years to fix one bugged hairstyle) and to wirey and receding for my tastes.

Of course not, being an artist myself I would be furious if someone did that with one of mine :)

Recently got this hair which looks good to me on both. Curly Swept Style Hair for Genesis 8 and Genesis 8.1 Males | Daz 3D

There's a new hair in the Scrooge bundle today dForce Rizado Hair for Genesis 3, 8 and 8.1 | Daz 3D that I think will be versatile. I realize these are male styles I will use for female, not what the OP asked about, female hair to male. I generally work with shorter hair for the males. If I would chose a style, it would likely be a Linday long hair Long Wet Hair with dForce for Genesis 8 | Daz 3Dor her shorter wet hair style. Summer Wet Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s) | Daz 3D

I'd like to see different nape necklines, male and female. I have  a widow's peak with curves on either side, not the male pattern, and, at my nape, 2 naturally growing diamond shapes going to a point at the low end, Easily seen when I wear 2 braids or plaits, and when I put up my hair. I used to wonder why I never had that smooth look for the French roll style. Never sleek in the back of the head In fact, I think most of my family has the widow's peak and nape, too. High brows too high? I reduce the cranium height, but keep the browline about 3 fingers above the eyebrows, that often fixes the brainiac effect for me.

I've seen faux napes shaved to that effect, but that's not what I meant, but might also be appealing to change up the shorter styles.
