Uninstalling vs Copy and Paste

I don't know how I've messd it up so bad, but I'm 120% certain that I will never attempt the copy and paste method of moving Daz to the D drive ever again. I have been struggling with items that no long work, props that have to be unintalled and re-installed 4 imes before they work. Honestly, I'm just so done at this point. I'm gonna end up uninstalling everything and redoing it all again if it doesn't start acting right.
Lesson leanred - DOn't try and take short cuts, just do it the old fashioned way.

I've put in a feature request some time ago that DIM needs a "move my Library" function that automated this whole operation.
It would be very useful for WHEN, not if, I need to move an entire content library to a new drive.
If they could make it so all I need to do is click the "move my library" button and give it a new location , that would be fantastic.
It seems like no matter which method I use, I somehow end up with a few problems. I actually remember the first time I tried to transfer my folders, it took me a full day to get everything running again. I decided to move everything, rather than just redownload, as our bandwith had a cap and we were nearly hitting it every month. I ended up with one giant headache. I knew nothing about the content directory manager. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and just ran into so many issues. And then I found out I needed to change some directories. It didn't 100% solve every issue but man, I was almost in tears by the time I got most of my stuff working again. I've had to move my stuff over a few times. I never look forward to it.
IceCrMn - This would be great if there was something like this already in the system. Cause let me tell you, I'm almost 1 hour and 20 something miinutes in and I'm still re-installing everything. I can only imagine what it's gonna be like when I get a better computer and have to move everything again. T-T
Dandene - That was me. I had like 3 different tutorials that I tried to follow and each one failed in it's own way. Some of them I followed each step to the letter, other ones I tried to modify the steps, same outcome. I don't know how I did it so smoothly the first time, but the more I think about it, I remember certain props/functions stopped working right after I did it. I never questioned it, and figured that it was a glitch and that it would be patched in the next update. Only now do I realize that even that time I messed it up somehow but decided to live with the mess ups. But my broski, I feel your tears. I have been dealing with this headache for almost a week now, trying to fix it for so many hours just to end up with the same result on a different level of screwed. I went to bed one night, eyes burning from pure D anger, I couldn't fall asleep till I got back up and tried again, just to go back to bed mad, XD
At least you didn't cave in and move them back to the original drive hehe. I did that once. Got so frustrated that I decided I'd just make room for more Daz products and put the folder back where it came from.
I feel like going to bed mad at Daz is ritual most of us practice at some point. :P
Without more detail on what you did it's a little tricky to offer advice, but I just moved my content across to a larger drive (mostly installed through Connect) without issue.

In fact, if you keep the zips DIM can kinda move its installations - set the new paths, then select everything in the Installed tab, right-click and there is a reinstall option.
⬆️ This! ⬆️
I have done it but you have to drill down to so many things in application data etc and edit paths,
I think I had to change stuff in DIM,
edit the file in C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library InstallManagerFileRegister.json in notepad to change the path
in C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager
basically anywhere a path is listed
I explained more but Cloudflare killed my post and lost all the stuff I pasted here![angry angry](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/angry_smile.png)
That files is a list of files that were already present when Install manager tried to write its own copy - it keeps the list so that it won't deleet files it didn't itself place should it uninstall the product.
yes I know because I copied and pasted my files to a different drive with a different letter, I did not save the zips on that computer so had to alter where it thinks it all is
For that you need to edit (copies of) the manifest files.
