Shading Question: Made a belt in Blender... It fits on my V4 Models...But the shading seems flat.

I'm just getting into Blender.
Been at it for about a week.
I wanted to make some props for my figures in DAZ.
Not looking to sell stuff, just want to make things I need.
So I tried to think of what would be the easiest thing to make as my first prop...
I settled on a belt...hard thing to screw up...
Everything seemed to go fine...Did a lot of tweaking of dots, using a V4 Base model as my dummy.
I created simple one color mats for the components in Blender, and was happy to see all these areas translated into DAZ.
I could select the separate surface areas to modify the colors. Nice!
However when I tried to apply third party shaders....things looked pretty bad...still not sure why.
Do I have to make modifications to the objects surfaces for DAZ to work well with them?
One example...I applied a chrome shader to the buckle..but it just seems to be grey..not very Chrome-ish.
Any ideas?

I'm guessing your using Studio and that the shaders are just regular shaders. Did you UV map the belt?
What does it look like in an actual render?
You would need to UV map it for it to work with most texture based shaders. Another thing to check it to make sure the normals are facing outwards in blender. Ocassional I get caught when I flip something as it can also flip the normals to facing inwards.
Yeah I just have basic textures on it.
I saved it at different stages of the process...
This version has everything joined together and I baked the main belt at a hi rez.
I'm using Sub-D...
Should I UV texture everything un-joined at low rez?
Then join it?
The buckle and the clips on the back are all cubes.
Seems to me the finished version, as it is would be a pain to UV .

Depending on what the end use you have in mind for the item is whether UV would be needed or not.
Its not essential it just means texture maps won't work on it.
UV can be painful at the best of times, on something like a shoelace or belt its hair pulling.
The best advice I can give for UV mapping is marking seams, Good seam marking makes the process so much easier.
