You can use that sphere as a rendered background but you do need to a few things first http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/50576/

i'd render skies in bryce or carrara, if i could learn how to unwrap a sphere to a rectangle. don't know where to put the pins.

    Thanks.

UE2 seem to have been removed in DS 4.7, has it been replaced by something else?

It is under Daz Studio Formats > Light Presets > omnifreaker > UberEnvrionment2 and it is still there for me

Hm, you're right, thanks. Strange, I was looking for it under both Lights and Light Presets the other day but couldn't find it (and I know it's in the omnifreaker folder). I think I've heard others talk about stuff sometimes disappearing and reappearing in the library, wonder if that's the case here.

LOL the old UI glitch, most likely as I still get them from time to time.

    Tutorial suggestion for 150303

comes free with DS, but what does it do and how to tweak it's settings? :)

    Subsurface Shader Base
    http://docs.daz3d.com/lib/exe/fetch.php/public/read_me/index/16324/16324_subsurface-shader-base.pdf

bumpy orange peels, looks good

-in the following DAZ Studio Folders:
    “Shaders:Age of Armour:Subsurface”

    doohh ---- there's a switch setting!

Pre SSS - Post SSS - This switch sets whether the diffuse texture and color should be calculated within
subsurface scattering or applied (by color multiplication) after subsurface scattering

Post SSS diffuse tells the subsurface portion of the shader to consider the outer surface as being solid white.
... the shader takes the subsurface result then multiplies ...

Pre SSS uses the diffuse color and texture in the subsurface calculation. This generally gives a softer looking...

-normal maps not affected by tile settings
-The most important settings to keep in mind are the Group ID and Shading Scale.

(not sure, but i think the s in fresnel is silent s.)

    - more just documentation than a tutt.
    https://3delight.atlassian.net/wiki/display/3DSP/Using+the+RIB+reader+-+renderdl

was trying to find tutt on using the 3DE standalone.
it IS possible to que up a few renders.
command line though. there's a couple command line switches.

can't find any info specific to ds

I'm going to have to settle for 3Delight. This is a 32-bit machine and can't do Iray. Thanks for all these tutorials, Misty. I need to get better with what I've got.

i haz no gpu, can't do irays or any other kinda rays.

and there's no saying the 4.8 general release will be 'free'.

i'm pretty happy with 3de and the advanced lights sets. and uber sets.

would like to figure out that path tracing. need more data.

here is a tutorial suggested in another thread. designed for Maya, but would also apply to Hexagon, Carrara vertex modeler, Blender, etc.

Take a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xls25e08sSg

Ryan Kittleson has a great method

Being leprechaunless today, I hope to get some serious tutorial work done. I can't handle Iray either and I really need to learn what I'm doing with 3Delight and the other things I already have.

I love the suggestions. Like others, I really need to learn how to use what I have, especially before I spend money (that I don't have) for things that make me go "Shiney! I want!" Now if I would just find the time and actually go through the tutorials instead of just adding to my every growing, and disappearing, list.

I got the AoA Atmospheric Camera when it was released, but have never used it. It's time for me to explore it. I downloaded the manual just in case I didn't already have it. Now I have to excuse for not diving in.
