Hello all. I hope I picked the right place to post this question.
I am very new to the Daz3D software and am trying to get a good base library established for charachter creations. After puchasing some lower priced figures I have realized that they do not contain the actual anatomical element modeling. I have been reading posts on this forum to try and determine what the best option is regarding a base model or set of models and the Michael and Victoria figures seem to be the go to. Now beyond this is where all of the information starts to run together on me.
I read where it will say in a character description if it has the anatomical elements. I assume the actual modeling is listed as "anatomical element presets". Is that correct? Several threads have mentioned one must buy a pro bundle or theme bundle. The Pro Bundles are very obvious in the store but I'm assuming the theme bundle would be like the Michael 8.1 Varsity Bundle or Victoria Loving Life Bundle. Is that the correct assumption?
When I read the description for the Michael 8.1 and Victoria 8.1 figures they both list "Anatomical elements material presets" in their features. Does that mean these have the 3D modeling for those features? They are not listed as a pro bundle but they are the latest 8.1 figures. I didn't know if that had changed witht he new models.
The last question that I have is since the new 8.1 figures come with both male and female elements is it neccesary to buy both figures? I ask all of this because I am trying to determine the most economical approach to accomplish a starting library.
Any clarifications on these questions would greatly be appreciated.

material presets are for applying the materials to the models, they are not the models - the bundles you cite all have the Anatomical Elements, there is only one set for each sex so it doesn't matter which you buy. Be aware that they have no real shaping options, nor in the case of the female set posing options, as supplied so if they matter a lot you may need to look at other options (alternative models or morph sets for the Daz models) from other stores.
If the "What's included list" says the product includes, "Genesis 8 Female Anatomical Elements" and/or "Genesis 8 Male Anatomical Elements", then the anatomical elements addon (separate item) is included.
If the list says "Anatomical Elements Material Preset", that means the textures/materials for the anatomical elements are included, not the actual item.
If nothing is said about anatomical elements, then don't expext even the textures/materials to be included.
Economical.
So what are you trying to do? "Hide the sausage" shots? Michelangelo's David, Botticelli's Birth of Venus poses? There's a range of expectations there.
I really LIKE the Daz anatomical elements, but those may not be the best for what you want to do. They don't come with a set of movement/morph dials on their own. You can get a lot of great dials for them, but those are extra costs.
Third party anatomical elements MAY be better for your needs. It's not always the case.
Specifically all the ADULT Daz Original base characters have the anatomical elements (gens). The younger figures do NOT.
Exept on their own, they only include the textures/materials for the addon, which can only be 'bought' in a bundle
3rd party gens at renderotica are the way to go for look and function
For the OP: renderotica is most definitely NSFW. At all.
If you want the most versatile genital model for females, Golden Palace is the one to find at renderotica. Works great for all Genesis Female 8 & 8.1. For males the one to get is Di**tator. So many shaping morphs for look and movement.
For hair there are a lot of options, but by far the easiest to deal with and most versatile are the ones by Mike1968, but you have to make sure get the ones specifically for GP and Di**tator. There's a template you can throw into PhotoShop to create your own shapes, and there are many morphs for length/curl/etc.
Many of the models in the DAZ store have female bits in the appropriate places in 2D as part of the skin, as well as accompanying hair elements. Some models also have separate hair attachments as 3D models (similar to how eyebrows are handled). Most of these are fine for "Gentleman's magazine" type renders. The Anatomical Elements 3D models included with the Pro packs are somewhat generic, but functional.
EDIT:
Renderotica contains *many* images and products depicting sexual violence and degradation, plus the tools/poses to make your own. If these things are upsetting to you, it's a site best avoided.
I found the one by 3feetwolf new gens to be superior to golden palace, but I can't remember the specific issue I had with golden palace when trying them side by side that made me choose. It was a while ago, and who knows, the issue might be resolved by now. I just picked the one that worked best at the time, and stuck with it because it still works.
IMO, the current Daz female gens (g3f/g8f) are underrated.
Yes, the third party gens do better at up-close gynocological shots... but with enough dials & stuff (like geoshell overlays), the Daz gens can be very nice. The Daz gens perform well in a wider variety of conditions and leg positions (LOL), whereas the more extreme leg bends can make third party bits look really weird.
Or, just the classic desert-dwelling ungulate animal's toe. With proper dials, the Daz gens can do that really well, whereas Golden Palace is a little less good in that basic shape.
Male anatomical elements... same thing. For general use, I go back to the Daz bits. This site has some good shaping dials. (Male-M3dia's catalog in particular.) It takes a few dials for the Daz dangly bits, but they do the job well.
IMO, the best solution is to have everything, and use the best tool for the specific work you are trying to do.
Golden Palace, 3fw's New Gens, the Daz bits, the various third party male bits... all of them have their positives.
"Economical" is something that goes out the window quite rapidly with this hobby.
Yeah, I had to make my own "ungulate" morph for GP ... LOL (your description had me laughing). Nevertheless, I would prefer to buy something independently of being required to buy it as part of a bundle (a Pro bundle, no less), I prefer the Meipe products to 3FW these days but I have both.
Thank you everyone for the advice and comments. There was WAY more information than I anticipated. I am finding out that with the proper shaping tools that there isnt a need to buy every cool looking figure set that comes along. Clothing and hair styles alone can quickly make this "hobby" a money pit. I see that with a proper set of morphing/shaping tools one can make just about any look for a character from the Genesis base models. This was the last piece of the puzzle that was causing me some confusion. Thank you again to each of you that weighed in on the topic. You folks are very helpful.
Hey, get out of here with that negativity, pal.
;)
Perhaps this is the poor boy from a poor background in me talking now but I agree ... I don't see the need to buy all these different characters when we can easily (and it is a big part of the fun) dial in our own to our own tastes. I tend to buy characters for the skins and not for the shapes. Indeed, I never use a character "out of the box", as it were. I'm amazed that many here have such an extensive library of hundreds of characters.
One day (ah yes, really - one of these days) I will learn how to sculpt my own character shapes in Blender but the skins will probably always be beyond my skills.
