Rerouting Scene Folder in New Version of DS

Hello DS gurus.

Could someone please tell me how to make my newest installation of DS use my old Scenes directory (folder)?

I want DS 4.16 to look at my current - DS 4.15 Scenes folder to open existing scenes and store any new scenes I create there.

  • This is a different release channel - Public Build vs General Release? Othrwise you shouldn't need to do anything. If it is a diferenet channel, run this script http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/save_mapped_paths/start in the soruce (the version that does know where the scenes are) and then run the script it creates in the other version (run scripts through the content pane, or by drag and drop into the Viewport).

Thank you for the reply Richard. Sorry it took me so long to reply but, once again, I am not getting notices of replies despite having highlighted the gold star to do so.

Anyway ... I'm not sure about your question about the release channel.

I am using the beta version of DAZ 16. Cannot figure out how to get the general release. The beta is the one that keeps showing up in the DIM.

I might add that I always keep my content directory on my D drive because it is so big. But that likely has nothing to do with the scene folder?

    Thank you for the reply.

I will try to check back soon since I don't get notified.

  • So it's the same version, other than number, that has now lost the content? Did you check that the paths were correct in Edit>Preferences>Content tab>Content Directory Manager? Theer have been others who have lost their content, usually I think due to paths resetting, but that shouldn't happen and doesn't for other users - I am wondering if there might be a plug-in involved.

Sorry. I should have included some back ground info:

I just got a new SSD drive. Upgaded to a 4 TB for my content.

I saved my content directory to my F drive and then installed my new D drive and copied my content directory to my new D drive. DAZ has been confused ever since even though I did go into the DIM and DS to be sure the paths were correct. Now the DIM want me to download all my content over again even though the content directory is correct.

DS is not finding my scenes - well not all of them. It finds some of them for some reason. But I digress. The point is, I don't know where to go to change the path DS looks at to find the scenes like I did the content library.

  • On DIM - is it pointing to the correct Manifests folder, with the .dsx files from previous installations in it - that is how it knows what it has installed, not from the actual files or the database (because those don't record the absolute path to which everything was installed)

Okay. So ... what is your suggestion Richard?

Thanks for your help as always. You help so many people selflessly on this forum. You're awesome.

  • If DIM isn't showing previous isntalaltions it may be that you do not have the .dsx files from those installation in the Manifests folder - because they are lost or because the path is wrong. Note that these are not the same as the .dsx files in the Downloads folder.

If I'm following waht you want correctly.

Just add the old Scenes folder to your list in the "Content Directory Manager" would be the easiest way.

I have my Scene and Scene subset folders seperated.

Thanks for this IceCrMn. I cannot see a way to add the scene folder as shown. The add button is grayed out as can be seen here.

Okay. That worked great IceCrMn. I am all set. Forgot to get back to you sooner.

BTW ... I discovered that the reason the DIM wanted to download a million products I already had was that when I installed my new drive I somehow copied over another - incomplete - content library from an older drive and the DIM was seeing that librabry and wanted to update it. Not sure how I did that but when I got rid of that older library the DIM was all happy and no longer tried downloading all that content.

Thanks for your help IceCrMn. laugh You're awesome!

DIM uses the manifest files to determines what has been installed and for updates not the actual library files.
