Geometry Splitting Question
Is there a way to split geometries within DAZ Studio? Because I'm not entirely sure if there is or not because I haven't been able to find any indication. And the Geometry tool doesn't help with that.
More detailed explanation:
I've goten a few car models and I want to get, say the gear shift to move while being a part of the base geometry. So i figure "Why not use the Geometry Editor, I'm sure it'll help me out." Needless to say whenever I make a new group, it's not reflected in the Scene tab underneath the selected object in question. And I can't seem to find any tools that will let me separate selection into a separate object. Is there any way I can do it without having to import another OBJ? Or is that the only way to do things?
Also, I think I may have posted this in the wrong subforum: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/52810/

You could use the Geometry Editor to create groups then assign them to bones after making the item into a figure (Edit>Object>Rigging>Convert prop to Figure), or you could select parts, assign them to groups and save then go through selecting each group, hiding the unselected polygons, and deleting the hidden polygons to build a collection of props.
I see. But that's not what seems to happen when i try it. Here's my problem (in a nutshell):
The selected is the object I want separate from the base mesh- http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab193/philipnova798/Part1_1.png
The item itself is rigged, but the interior's not fully posable (which I'm not sure why that is). And I want it to be at least partially so. so I'm trying to see if I can do it. But I can't seem to separate the the part in question (The gear shifter) from the body of the jeep. And I can't seem to find the tools to do so in DAZ (assuming there are any). And whenever I try to delete just part of the object, the whole thing disappears instead of the parts I want it too.The best I can get it to do is just to hide the surrounding geometry.
I know DAZ is an animation and posing program first. But I don't get why it can't let you edit the geometry beyond grouping polygons, their surfaces and hiding them. Unless I'm missing something, that is.
