Did the stupid thread die?  What is AutoCAD and why did I install it?

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,200
...nah, still has a pulse. As to AutoCAD tgat is professional drafting software which is very expensive depending on what modules and expansions you have for it.

I got tgat free version of AutoCad.   I am thinking of getting the free version of Blender.

Oh crap I lost the Fn key again.

..there's a free version of AutoCad? I thought it was justa limited time trial version.

Yes Blender is free...moneywise.  As to time investment...it is a real pain just to learn how to get around its clunky keyboard driven UI. I felt I was spending more time dealing with figuring out it's cryptic UI than I was learning about modelling which is why I went back to Hexagon and Carrara.

Guess it is a limited time full trial.

Thereis nolegalfree AutoCAD.  My brother used it at his last job and if there was a free version he would being using it now instead of TurboCAD.

It is not free for commercial usage.

There is a house next door being torn down.  It is near my bedroom and is very loud.

It is an educational version.  I tried to back to school a year or two ago but still have the educational version of AutoCAD 2016.

Existential answer:  Are you sure it is?

Religious answer: Because God wanted it that way.

    Scientific answer: Look it up.

    Satisfactory answer: Because.

...it certainly isn't here, more orange/brown thanks to some stupid fool who lit off fireworks in the Cascade Locks area which sparked yet another large wildfire (on top of the ones we already have been dealing with). At just before noon today (local time) the colour of the sunlight coming through the the window was more like just before sunset.  The sky reminds me of what it looked like in Los Angeles back in the 60s or passing through Gary/Hammond Indiana where all the steel mills and smelters used to be. There isn't a real cloud in the sky but it looks like one of those days with a thick layer of high clouds.

Also heading to a high of 102° today 101° tomorrow and 90° on Wednesday.  The real issue with the smoke is it keeps the heat from radiating back out particularly at night.  Sort of a "localised" greenhouse effect.  Won't see relief until Thursday when it will drop into the 70s (more normal for this time of year) with a 40% chance of actual water from the sky which hopefully will wash all the smoke out.

Is ten gigs of data a lot?

Is ten gigs of data a lot?

    Compared to what?

You can get a 16GB thumbdrive for ten dollars and the drugstore.

If you're downloading 10GB of data on a dial up line you're going to get noticably older before it finishes.

On a modern cable or even DSL connection you should be able to get 10GB downloaded before your toast finishes toasting.

    10GB is two 3-hour movies.

10GB is only 6 ten-thousandths of the print information in the Library of Congress. (15TB).

But your friend GOOGLE has been asked this question before. https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/16i0lu/is_10gb_of_internet_data_a_lot_of_data/
