Adding Volume to an ocean plane

Hi!
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to add volume beneath a plane like the following example:
I was able to add the animated ocean plane to my scene and then a cube below it, but the volumetric cube below it doesn't follow the animation - it creates seeable gaps like the cube is wearing an ocean hat.
Any ideas on how to merge these two together to make one cohesive unit?

There's a tutorial showing how to make a waving flag using dForce ... I think the same principles would help make that animated ocean surface with the attached ocean cube.
I make building fronts by creating a plane... cutting the windows out and using Thickener

so you could take any plane ... in this case a desert ... thicken it and add a water shader
stick a light emtting cube in it...
