G8/ 8.1 female and footwear fits

Hi folks,

I'm bit confused It is my understanding that as far as the G8.1 female mesh was concerned it's same as G8F with exception of the head.

When it comes to clothing and footwear wouldn't it all work for both versions since there really isn't a difference in body structure?

I bought some footwear labeled for 8.1 female but had issues with on G8F.  I really didn't think it would have been an issue using the product on G8F since the body meshes on both Genesis figures are the same.

Only Genesis 8.1's facial bones and material surfaces have been adjusted, the mesh is exactly the same. The compatibility metadata is not the same, however. There are ways to make it work, but saying it "had issues" is so vague as to be useless. Description? Workflow? Screenshots?

  • The only issues I've encountered are pose related; the feet poses are saved as hierarchical preset and don't apply to g8.

yeah, I have warped mesh on all heels I have tried from G8, so I just stick with heels made for G8.1. Clothing works fine in my experience.

  • Sorry my issue was a pair of shoes that later I learned, when I went back and looked at the product again, that these were made for G8.1 female. I read the product description too quickly. All I saw in the beginning of the description was "Model required G8F". However, further down it read for G8.1 Female.

I figured that since G8.1 mesh outside of the face was the same and the footwear would still work. Next time I'll take more care reading product descriptions and not be so excited about how good the shoes would have worked in a period piece I was working on.

sorry about my vague description but I was tired.

The bones have not changed, the properties that control them have.

What sort of error messages are you getting? How do you know they don't work? What products are you using?

  • No error message, just the message box stating that the item I am using is for a figure not supported. In the drop down box to select the correct figure for the shoes I am using neither G8F or G8.1 appears in the list just G2,3 and G8 male figures appear and both G8F and G8.1 are installed. I really don't want to post the product I am using because it was bought off site and I don't want to appear to be bad mouthing the artist.

  • The issue is solved it's the version of DS I'm using 4.12. I've got to be getting old and forgetful.

Don't fit the shoes directly to G8.1F, that will trigger autofit dialog.

Load the shoes without G8.1F selected, or cancel autofit dialog. Then select the item in the scene, and go to scene tab. In the menu at the corner of Scene Tab, select Edit -> Scene identification and change the "Prefered Base" to  Genesis 8.1/Female.
Then fit your shoes to Genesis 8.1 Female

The Preferred Base should be Genesis 8/Female, not 8.1

  • Well I don't know if it's an issue with the shoes themselves but it doesn't matter if it's G8 or G8.1 they don't auto fit to neither of them. It's like the shoes are not pointing to the G8 figure as the preferred base.

Load the items with nothing selected in the scene, or just cancel the AutoFit dialogue.

If you right-click on the shoes there should eb a Fit To option, or you can select them and look in the Parameters pane under Constraints.

  • All worked well thanks for instructions on getting the footwear to work.

I do not see the Genesis 8.1/Female in the selection dialogue. Is it correct - or G8.1 need to be re-installed/fixed?

  • It may be worth reinstalling Genesis 8 Starter Essentials (which contains the 8.1 figures and metadata)
