Speed up rendering of SSS Surfaces?

I've searched the forum for ideas on this so it's time to be direct, I bet someone has the answer-

Is there a way to speed up the preview (progressive rendering) and final quality render of figure surfaces that use SSS (mainly G2F, G2M) while retaining the texture maps?

Sometimes I don't need SSS and the time it takes to render or preview. Such as there isn't enough skin showing to need it, the figure is in middle or background, is dimly lit, or I just want a quick render to check light and shadow.

I'm open to ideas that are simple or take a little time (that I can save as a preset). I've experimented with turning off body parts and adjusting surfaces (opacity to 0) that do not show but those methods are a little time consuming and do not have enough freedom for wardrobe.
