That is known as Z-fighting, where two surfaces are so close the program can't determine which one should be drawn first. 99 out of 100 times it's caused by Iray's limited floating-point precision. To fix it, set your Instance Optimization to "Memory". On the slim chance that doesn't work, apply a smoothing modifier to the skullcap and set the target as the figure's head.
Thank you for the info on how to fix this issue with this and other hair products that do this, as never knew whow to do it properly..![laugh laugh](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)

i'll certainly bare this in mind but on my first try setting the instance optimization to memory hasn't worked and the vast majority of hair i own doesn't have the skullcap available to add a smoothing modifier to (even though i do know they have caps because they are there under surfaces).
Whenever i come across this, (which is piratically always) i find that there is usually the option under the parameters tab to adjust the forehead width and depth and either reducing or increasing these sliders by just a couple of percent (or just as much as is required) has been the only way to prevent the problem.
obviously photoshop can be a safety net for times when the issue has slipped through unnoticed.
I misspoke--you don't add the smoothing modifier to the skullcap, you add it to the hair. That will conform the skullcap to the head, preventing self-intersection. I have never once had to use the morphs that come with the hair to remove self-intersection, which I assume are for custom characters with oddly shaped heads.
Well if it works for you cool... i tried it and it didn't look at all good applied to the whole hair.
i certainly don't claim to have the definitive solution to this problem (i don't think there is one) just reporting my findings.
