is it possible to fully rig a figure, including weightmaps, with any script or generator?

One click rigging, no. There are some tutorials for sale in the store. It's possible to fully rig a figure in Daz Studio, the more complex a figure the more work that's entailed of course.

https://www.daz3d.com/shape-rigger-plus might help a little bit...

I wish there was a one click solution too, sadly I don't think it's possible yet. But I kind of miss the good old days when we have to think hard to find a solution and work everything from scratch... greater satisfaction when mission accomplished.

It is possible with the following caveats: You need to write the script yourself and the script needs to be custom-made for your mesh.

If the figure is humanoid you use DAZ Studio's trasfer rig utility and make the adjustments. That is almost all programming with just a few steps by the user. Search on YouTube or in the DAZ 3D store for one of the tutorials on how to do it. The Shape Rigger Plus mentioned earlier can help a lot which some details programmatically to but strictly isn't needed.

I'm not sure if use can use DAZ's transfer utility to say, transfer DAZ Dog 8 mesh to other quadripeds and such but I don't think so. eg, A horse's bones are different than a dog's, but there is DAZ Big Cat 2, DAZ Horse 2, and other DAZ animals too.

ascania: is there enough functionality in the daz sdk? i think the daz script did not have enough options.

  • rigging is not actually the hard part

using the transfer utility is pretty straightforward

it's finding a redistributable figure as your base that's the issue

you cannot use any DAZ figure for anything not made for and reliant on said figures

except of course for your own use, it cannot be redistributed even for free

I was under the impression that the Auto-Rig button was next to the Make Art button... but I can't find it anymore...

Actually Poser had or has a simple auto rig feature or something like that, but it sucks and doesn't really work the way it's implied... it might only be a rigging helper... either way it's not great.
