Making favorite V4 textures fully usable on G8
I'm an occasional DS user, not terribly skilled, but I do enjoy the occasional render as limited time permits. I have an old V4 freebie character texture that is a favorite (thanks again Sixus1!). This set of texture maps has been modified by others and further modified by me to be pretty much exactly what I want.
There isn't anything comparable available for the Genesis 8 that I have found. I'd really like to convert this texture to fully usable on G8, and be able to us LIE overlays, geoshells, etc.
Is there a way to do this? What would be the proceedure, and what would be required?
I really am interested in just this one character, and only because there is nothing equal or better for G8 that I have found so far.
Any insights are greatly appreciated.
Thanks, S

This is the only way I know of.
It's kind of cumbersome to use - no shade towards the PA, there probably isn't a easier way to do it.
Use of LIE, geoshells, geografts, etc is very limited whe using this product.
But it gets the job done. Works on G8.1 as well.

is probably the easiest way
otherwise you need to project them some way from one mesh to another and both need to occupy the same 3D space
Clone shapes and Blender texture baking, Zbrush Zprojection, Ultimate Unwrap3D repaint Blacksmith 3D addons
it gets complicated fast!
I actually use that product with Map Transfer and Gimp to create textures for a non geografted Genesis8 as well which is more work but doable
Thanks so much for the resposes.
I just purchased the Legacy UV's package.and will give it a try.
I'm kind of curious about the Map Transfer/ Gimp method. How does that work?
I'd ultimately like to have full LIE, geoshell/geograft capability, if that is possible.
Thanks again, S
well because the geografts overlap geometry due to V4 having different surfaces you will get lots of broken up maps you need to combine as layers which I do in Gimp
you will need to transfer maps between each of the G8F surfaces they share
it is prone to seams too
I use Genesis 1 and map transfer also to generate the maps as it has a V4 UV so it's a bit of a jigsaw puzzle
The legacy UV product posted is the easiest way to use V4 textures on G8. Other than that you would need to change the UV mapping on G8 to the same UV mapping that V4 has, NOT an easy task and ideally you would need to use a product like Blacksmith3d or Ultimate Unwrap 3D to do this.
Personally I find that all the V4 skins I have tried on G8 look like crap in iray and find there are much better G8 alternatives. best of luck
Take a look at Texture Transformer over @ Rendo. There is a V4 to Gen 3 Female addon. This is a more modern program similar to the old texture converter. Texture converter (The old program) worked well for organic textures like humans or furries but not so well for Android/cyborg 2nd skins. I think that Texture Transformer has similar performance.
If you happen to have Blacksmith3D Pro 6 you can use the addons in that also
The learning curve for the Texture Transformer is pretty gentle.
Really? I could never get it to work try as I may.
I just checked and mine is working, although there are a few wierdnesses like making a specular map out of the diffuse map. It does unfortunately just dump all the textures into one folder. That will get confising eventually
The specular quirk is probably because even though there is a specular map in the Texture folder it is not referenced in rhe pz2
Understood & concur. For the specific texture I want, there isnt really a good G8 alternative. I contacted the artist who made the original V4 texture and asked about a possible G8 version. He said he'd consider it when thinking about future freebies, but nothing released so far. So, I'm down to convert the V4 texture, wait until Sixus1 feels like doing a G8 feebie version, or making a G8 texture from scratch myself. Which I don't really have time to do ( they'll be on Genesis 14 by the time I get around to that..)
