Weird Iray behaviour

This is doing my head in!

Sometimes I can create a scene that renders near perfectly in one or two minutes but other times I get a grainy result after 10 using excactly the same scene.

For example I created a scene just now and when I went to render it it looked great in under a minute, I did a little tweak with the scene (added a skin effect) and now the render will take half an hour to look as good.

I know its not the skin add because I started again without it and got the same lengthy render result.

Does anyone have any clue why this is happening? It feel like Iray is being so random!

I feel it has something to do with the camera angle, so if i move it just a fraction I get completely different render times.

It doesn't seem to matter whether I render in full hd or higher. I have max samples at 600 but it doesen't seem to matter if i increase or decrease these either.

Cheers.

  • Once the renders start taking longer to converge do they stay that way until you restart the application?  By default if the GPU runs out of memory the render will drop to the CPU, which is much slower, and once that happens it is usually necessary to close Daz Studio to free the GPU.

I think Richard is right, today I suddenly found my render stop using GPU! Only running in CPU, but I didn't change any setting. After closed the studio and started again, it goes back to use GPU. Now I learned I have to check GPU loading at anytime starting a big render.

I unchecked cpu and had the renders solely on the graphics card and that seems to have worked! Thank you so much guys.Knew I could depend on you!
