This was an insta-buy, for me: City Building Facade Shaders

These Building Facade Shaders -- I cobbled together a quick scene to play with 'em.

I've been fumbling with Blender to try and create some buildings for use in urban scenes, but everything I make looks like a pile of sticks.  These shaders seem to be a great solution to creating a plausible cityscape.

Note:  the near-foreground buildings are New York Tenements 2 -- the deep background apartment building with the lighted windows is from the facade shader product.

I haven't tried them yet but I bought them as soon as I saw them. This looks like a great idea, using shaders to create scenery.

Excellent render!  I was really interested in this shader set, but unfortunately I don't do enough modern renders to justify buying it right now.  Definitely a future purchase, though!

I will give this product another look after seeing this render

super, background building reminds me of a few places in Chicago when I was a kid.

  • Wow, this is amazing! I must've missed this product but I thiiiink I need it... like, right now.

This vendor has very quickly made their way into the "buy now, ask questions later" bucket in my brain.  I think the only thing I haven't bought from them was the physical marker props lol.

I had a look at the vendor's other offerings and I completely agree.  He sure knows how to present materials and surfaces.  Really glorious stuff!

Seems I have to take a closer look at those products... up to now I seems to have missed to do that, due to them being all censored

    wink

Same here! When I saw that it included windows WITH light I put that in the cart immediately. Can't wait to have enough time to play with it as this will really help cut down on some of the render time for me being able to use this instead of 3d buildings in canvases.

Agreed, it does tell a story.

This went in the cart immediately; I've lost count of the number of times I've had to close curtains/kitbash curtains and/or walls, use backdrops, bring in buildings from Urban Sprawl, Streets of Old London, etc. for interior scenes that have windows.  This is really a must-have (to say nothing of being able to use it in exteriors).

A quick and dirty test with the Pure Luxury Bedroom Scene.  I swapped out the curtained wall and replaced it with a bay window from Collective3d Create a Room Xpack 3 and curtains from JP Doris Curtain - Poses and Prop for Victoria 8.  With City Building Facade Shader Collection I can open the curtains and might even restore the original wall and curtains.

What would be REALLY cool is if there was a parallax window shader.

The product is gone from the store now. It's in my cart, but the link takes me to a "Page Not Found" message. Will it be available again soon? It's a must-have for me as well.

EDIT - And it's now disappeared from my cart.

Dang. Glad I bought it yesterday, then. These kinds of creative shaders are a great way to do more with less.
    Finally installing it now.

I wonder what got it yanked from the store...

Anyway... I was playing around with Stonemason's Greeble City Blocks, and I noticed they often have a surface called "Windows", which is a tile-able thing that can do something similar here if you missed these shaders. (Just stick the Diffuse into the Emission channel and crank up the lights.)

(Not to say that this is a replacement at all... the new Building Facade shaders are much more useful, with many different types of tiles than this apartment/office block. It's not really the purpose of Greeble City Blocks to do this, anyway.)

That looks good, too,  The Blurst of Times.  I hope the product's being pulled from the store was just a problem with metadata or something minor.

Since a lot (but not all) of his shaders were pulled, it seems to be a more general problem than just this one product.

Thanks! I guess I'm just gonna resort to the illuminated version of CityScapes that I got in the last PC+ sale for background buildings, but it's a very helpful tip nevertheless, and CityScapes only includes modern buildings anyway, as far as I know.

Edit: The video is amazing, I'll need to try that!

You can also find a lot of similar stuff if you go to the artstation marketplace and search for "facade".

Great, thanks! I've only ever been at Artstation once yet, looking for a realistic hare (my life-long unfulfilled desire it seems), but I couldn't find a rigged one. I'll definitely head back over there now.

  • This just popped back into still new... It goes to the oops page but if you add to cart directly button it works however the seasonal discount is not working just a 30% off I hope it changes as I want to use it to qualify for the 10 for $3

It apears to be in the still new releases by mistake. It is no longer available in the store and will disappear when you proceed to checkout.

this is annoying, whetever the reason, i wishlisted it at once - couldn't buy it since i'm broke - but this was a real cool novelty. i hate my purse. so many things that have been taken away from my wishlist just because i couldn't afford them at once :/

why does original, unique, useful stuff like this disappear, when there are still millions of clones of similar versions of "the little black dress", its cousins, neighbors and grandchildren, and this also for every darn figure and its dog?

I bought it when it came out and there are some inconstant QC results. their may be a-fixin' needed and they pulled it.

Maybe; but a number of his other filters were pulled at the same time which suggests that the problem is not specific to this one filter.
