confused by HD characters? requires the HD add-ons?

for the V6 or M6 HD characters, like Stella or Tyler,
do i need the V6 & M6 HD-add-on?

I don't have the Gianni HD add-on. does that mean i'm not getting full benefit of like EJ Drago HD for Gianni 6?

    No you only need HD add on for named character eg M6 for M6 Gianni HD for Gianni etc
    other HD characters only require base or M6, Mei lin etc if named as needed

    An HD character for V6 (for instance) requires base V6. The HD Add-On for V6 requires base V6. But the HD character doesn't require the HD add-on.

    i could buy 2 or 3 HD characters for the price of the hd add-on.

    It's just Marketing. Most major DAZ characters come SD and the HD option is offered later on as AddOn. So if you want HD you can buy it. Other characters like Minotaur came with HD included. I have some HD AddOns but use them not quite often as they add significantly to render times. I would not mind HD for Belle by the way ;-)

    With PA characters its different. They don't get "primetime launches" and lots of add-ons like DAZ characters do, so once a PA makes HD it usually comes included and adds to the overall product value.

    But that's just my 2c.

    Usually, unless the description specifies otherwise, a character marketed as 'HD' will include its own HD morphs.

    As I understand it, a HD morph is created to enhance the individual character it was created for.

    Not all "HD" characters in the store have the same quality of extra detail. Some of the HD Characters that I have purchased (e.g. Felicity) do not have the same degree of extra detail as the DAZ base characters HD add-ons that I have purchased (e.g. V6. M6). In the case of Felicity, I swear that the "HD" body morph has no HD details at all. The face has some extra HD detail. Now in the case of Smay's Boris, that HD character has extremely good HD morphs, rivaling anything I have for DAZ base characters.

    The Christmas (2013) freebie Simple VeinsHD add-on does have the extras...
