Water Assistance

Hi

I'd really like some assistance with this, please...

I want to create an animated scene, in Daz 3d, of something leaping out of water (Let's say a whale or dolphin) and creating a splash effect around it. I've seen a number of good-looking items in store, however, I've spent quite a lot of money already and would like to avoid spending if I can.

If anybody can help I'd be very grateful, thanks!

  • I assume you haven't yet purchased Fluidos II? Other than that, I think Blender can do fluid simulations.

Do you know, I have been looking at that, but I went for the iReal animated Oceans instead.

I just took another look at that, and I think that's the one I should've gone for >.<

Using something like fludios or blender can give you a custom effect that in theory should give you the look you want, but these simulations can take a long time to set up, and often need running multiple times to get them to look as you want. A quick and easy solution is to use a splash object that can have a water shader applied, and then posed as you want. Here are some you can look at, they first two are free:

    Some commercial products:

    https://www.daz3d.com/liquid-pack

Ignore my post, I just realised that you wanted this for an animation.

    Not a problem, thanks!!

I should add that I do have fluidos, and it does look really good when it works, but I have only used it a few times, since as I said, the simulations can take a lot of tweaking to get them to perform as you like. It is a lot of work for a single frame render, which is all that I do, but for an animation the effort should be worth it.

I animated water all the time and it can be challenging

Nerds3d which use to sell here and no longer has a store anywhere. Has some really great animation tools that still work great in daz studio 4.16  for water like his splash tool , Waves on the beach tool and Rain tool   But unfortunate & sadly they are no longer available . I got all these tools when nerds use to sell at daz.I may be wrong But I believe he has retired.   https://hivewire3d.com/shop/shop-by-artist/nerd3d.html

I can highly recommend fludios II , which I had pretty good success for most of my water splashes and is my go too script for water animations.

If you have poser pro you can do water effects using the particle emitter tool that is built in to the poser programs. But its kind of time consuming to set up and takes forever to render. but still give pretty good results over all.

Blender would be the best free app to use . I love the blender physics engine, truly I wish I knew how to use it better there is so much to it. But as Richard stated it does a great job for water.  But the caveat is you really need to know how to use Blender like be a Master of it  in order to use it effectively in animation,  I've been using blender for 2 years for things and I have yet to begin to scratch the surface of using blender.

I have a few other cheats example I create a flat pane primitive &  add some water textures to it and then during the animation cycle I slowly scale the pane to make the water appear as it is moving.

I have used The philosophers iREAL water system that can be bought here at daz. . Its looks good & easy to set up  but its very limited to just scenes that require a ocean scene like a boat a person sitting in it,  iREAL will not create any  custom splashes.  and truthfully rendering I-wave is Rough.

These are the animations I have made using all the tools i named above.

These animations were created using the Fludios script  https://www.daz3d.com/alvin-bemar

This one was created using the iReal wave by The philosophers https://www.daz3d.com/ireal-animated-ocean-water-system

These animations was created using the Nerd3d animation tools

These animations are a couple of examples of how i use a flat primitive pane  to animate water.

The opening scene in this was done using a pane

and the water in the creek was done using a pane

    I hope that helps

Well, I'm not even a beginner in Blender, lol, I loved those seagulls in the Cliff diver video.

I actually bought the iReal Ocean pack this morning, however, it was after Richard suggested Fluidos I realized it was that one I was supposed to buy, in the meantime I'll have to make do with what I have, but I'm grateful for any assistance!

You can return your mistaken purchase and buy the one you now want with your store credit..

  • Depending on what you want to achieve, you might want to look at Houdini.  It's the tool many VFX shops use for making water effects for movies, TV shows, commercials, etc.  There is a free for non-commercial version and an indie license for commercial work under 100K revenue that is pretty affordable.  You can search youtube for "Houdini splash tutorial" to get an idea of how it works.  It does have a steep learning curve.
