Help converting previous gen clothes to G8 Figures

Hi all,
Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the holidays.
I've been trying to convert some clothes from previous generations without luck. I'm using RiveSsoft clothes converter. However the script fails to detect certain outfit and therefore I cannot make the conversion. Note THIS IS NOT an issue with the RiverSoft's script, but an issue on how the outfit was created/saved or whatever term applies here. These type of outfits exhibit the same issue, i.e. none of them triggers auto-fit pop up window from DAZ and they are not parented/fitted to the G8 figure automatically either.
I was told to check the scene identification and change the parameters to recognise the figure and then save it as a modified asset. However, no matter what I do or select in the available options, the outfit nevers triggers the auto-fit window.
This is what I've tried, this example is with a G2F outfit.
1. Load G8 figure and select it in the scene tab
2. Load outfit and select it in the scene tab
3. Right click scene tab and select Scene ID
4. Change the 3 available options (below) to Genesis 2 (or any other)
- Compatibility base
- Auto-fit base
- Preferred base
5. Go to File/Save As/Support Asset/Save Modified Assets...
6. Delete the asset from the scene
7. Refresh my library
8. Select G8 figure and load the outfit again
I've attached an image with an example.
I've done this several times by changing those 3 options with different values and none of it seems to work. Upon loading the outfit, it never triggers the auto-fit window and it is not fitted to the figure.
So, can anyone help me figure this out?
Thanks in advance and merry Christmas!

For any clothing that does not trigger the autofit dialog because it is not "fitted to" the figure, you can right-click on the clothing in the viewport and select the "fit to" dialog. Then the auto-fit dialog should pop up.
Hi Catherine, thanks for your reply.
However, that is not what I'm after. I'm well aware I can do that, and tha'ts what I've been doing for clothes I can't convert. That does not solve the issue of the RS's script not recognising the outift. Perhaps I should have been more especific.
Cheers.
What outfits are causing the issue? I have the RS scripts and have used them in the past, I may have some of the outfits you are trying.
I admit that I tend to have better results by turning the outfits into dForce and "fitting" them that way.
Hi Jason,
From the top of my head these are some I remember:
https://www.daz3d.com/graduate-for-v4
https://www.daz3d.com/graduate-for-m4
the jacket (both versions) from this one: https://www.renderosity.com/rr/mod/bcs/top-gun-for-genesis-3-females/113139/
https://www.renderosity.com/rr/mod/bcs/sweet-panties-for-genesis-3-females/112699/
and the one in the attached image from the OP which is just a standard undearwear piece from the naughty place that I won't link.
Since none of them triggers the auto-fit, they don't show up in RS's scripts either. And yes, I'm using the correct script for the different generations.
Could yopu expand on this?

If it's Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 (or vice versa), I'd just walk through SickleYield's tutorial on DA.
It works. (In general, flipping Compatibility Base around is better than doing an autofit routine.) You do have to adjust between the T and A poses, but it's better to learn how to do this stuff.

As for dforce... you can just Autofit, and then turn the surfaces you want to dforce. Select the thing, select the surfaces on the thing to dforce, go to Edit -> Figure -> Geometry -> Add dforce dynamic surface (or something like that)... then simulate like dforce whatevers. It can help smooth out the weird-looking stuff that autofit sometimes leaves behind. Or it'll just blow up into a dforce explosion. That happens, too.
What Burst said, first.
Using dForce to do this can result in explosions too, but there are small steps you can take to minimize that. Like making sure the post isn't too confining. You want to avoid points where the fabric starts off intersecting with the body.
If it is a confing pose then you want to start with a relaxed version and let the timeline move towards the final pose. I would avoid starting from the default poses if you can though, as some times the transition movement is too much for older wardrobe items.
When I say "fitting" I mean to avoid using Auto Fit. Try to manually pose the wardrobe over the figure as best you can, before starting the dForce simulation. I have had better luck when the wardrobe item's geometry is left as original as possible.
Lastly, I don't think you're going to have much luck Auto Fitting the gowns or the panties. The gowns are too loose and Auto Fit is definitely going to get confused / conform in places they shouldn't. You're going to need to try to dForce them.
The panties seem like a wasted effort. For these I would find an existing pair of panties for G8 and use the textures and transparency maps from the old wardrobe. They will probably need a little bit of fiddling to line up, but the results will most likely look better.
I have this item, and I managed to convert it fine using the RS script.

I did use force convert, but I do that for most V4/M4 conversions. If the add directory option is not finding the clothing items, just add the items individually with the add files option, and select all the CR2 files.
Hi Havos,
That gives me hope, at least with that outfit. I haven't tried with that outfit recently but IIRC it wouldn't show up even if I choose the add file option instead of the folder. The folder where the item i slocated simply appears empty of the file I want is missing. How did you manage to show up?
Cheers.
I used the add directory option for that item, and it worked fine, but sometimes it does not find the clothing items.
In the RS script go into the Options tab. Make sure the following are unticked (ie false):
Check Content Type When Adding Files
Ignore Daz Bought Files
Ignore Previously Convert Files
Do not Add Duplicates
Hi all, thanks for your replies and suggestions.
The reason I want to convert the these outfit is because at times the auto-fit conversion produces some weird morph distortion in some parts and I was hoping the RS script would solve that issue. In the case of the underwear, it has some weird flaps in the crotch area. I guess i could try and use mesh grabber to reduce/minimise that area.
Doing manual fitting with dforce sounds very time consuming and IMHO not worth it, at least for me. With my skills, I already spend way too much time in selecting the outfit and then the poses (hours literally) just for one scene and that is not taking into account the cameras and lighting. To fiddle with an outfit that much I feel there is an imbalance between reward and effort.
Cheers
In my experience the RSSY scripts are most important for more loose fitting clothes, eg: robes, dresses, tunics etc.
For close fitting clothing, particularly underwear like panties, then auto-fit should do a good job, if you have a good clone. Pants and Panties though can give issues in the crotch area for extreme poses, but then non-converted clothing can give issues in these cases as well sometimes, depends if the PA added any JCMs to the clothing.
dForce can be hit and miss, but for flowing items like dresses it is a must for me, particularly in sitting poses.
This instructions solved what I watned to do in the first place! So thanks a lot! However, as you mentioned in your follow up post, the script some times doesn't fix the issue, which in this case it didn't... that's a bummer.
Regardless, thanks again, at least now I can convert those items I couldn't in the past.
Cheers
