Camera Placement in X 300 Star Chaser Starship

Does anyone own the X 300 Star Chaser Starship? I'm interested it, but I'm worried about all the information that isn't provided.

The promos don't give a great sense of this product, especially with regards to how easy it is to use as an interior set. Are the walls and/or ceilings removable? What's the layout of the interior? How hard is it to position cameras within the different rooms?

Thanks!

It is a really nice model with some separate parts such as engines, interior, outside, and so on.. If you want to remove walls, floors and so on you will have to do it via the opacity setting in the surfaces tab, as even though the interior and exterior of the ship are separate parts, each part is one contiguous piece with movable parts such as doors, hatches and so on..

As for cameras if you use the complete interior/exterior model you get 20 different cameras for various parts of the ship..

I bought the product and was slightly dissappointed that the interior wasn't larger.   The promo images are literally what you see is what you get - which is fine.

So the Bridge, engine room and very small quaters and shower rooms.  1 single corridor connecting all.  The entrance ramp to the corridor is hard to see.  Everything fairly low polly.  An independent PA product would probably have a higher poly count, but then the price would probably be over twice what this DazOriginals product is.  So a fairly normal situation in that the DazOriginal product looks ridiculously good value at first glance from the promo images, but ultimately lacks a bit of detail on further inspection. However might just do the job OK if you are on a budget.

  • I actually like the low poly count (my computer does much better), but the walls and ceiling being one contiguous piece worries me. I don't mind using the opacity settings , but do the walls and ceiling have separate material zones?

The 'exterior' ship is a separate model.  The interior is its own single model so you are going to have to faff about with opacitiy to hide stuff as you'd guessed.  There are about 50+ material zones.  Pretty well named so you won't have issues hiding stuff like you do on some Rendo stuff and imported Max/Unreal objs.

The 'inside' exterior wall is just one zone.  It incluses some interior walls like the engine bay to corridor wall.  Some other interior walls like the bedroom wall have their own zones.   You won't end up rendering the whole ship to do interior shots.

Re-reading my earlier post I was a bit hard on the product.  You do get a full exterior.  There arn't that many full product ships with interiors.  I think you have to go back to the old Vanguard ship on Daz for a single product equivalent and that was always at a higher price.  Even on Rendo, equivalents are higher priced, older, and less Iray friendly.

A little bit OT here, the Hammerhead X7A Explorer Starship that AcharyaPolina created is another one that is awesome and a massive model.. Here is a comparison of the X7A and the X-300 can see how massive both are when you see the grid underneath..

Hmmmph... Didn't notice that either... even after you said that... I happened to tap the link (I'm on an iPad) and it activated.

Great... now I'm going to go around tapping on anything remotely suspicious looking for secret links... also obsessing over trying to figure out how that was done...

I suspect it was a clue placed there by the ghost of Benjamin Franklin to help determined adventurers find the original EULA for DAZ Studio which was hidden by Franklin and Thomas Jefferson in 1776 to prevent Robot Thomas Willing (an Illuminati robot posing as member of first continental congress, Thomas Willing) from finding the EULA and destroying it.

The EULA was written by Franklin and Thomas Jefferson knowing that one day there would be a very important computer program that would exist (TJ's time traveling cat "Prudence" told them about it), and they decided to hide within that EULA the clues to the hiding place of the untold riches of the Illuminati who had sent Robot Thomas Willing to destroy the original Declaration of Independence and the EULA... fortunately, they were able to thwart his efforts and hide the EULA and all Robot Thomas Willing was ever able to achieve was to not sign the Declaration of Independence... and blow up a few horses, but that's a different story... filled with even more confusing plot holes...

But somewhere out there is a secret mystery link to the treasure...

I know it must be out there and I didn't just make all this up because I was bored...

    Probably...
