Illustration style rendering

I'm hoping for some advice / guidance on the best way to achieve more of a 'drawing / colouring' style render.  I have played around with a number of products and got varying results, but some one of the preview images for the new product 'Cute and Simple Outfit for Genesis 8.1 Female' (the main image of the girl standing on the stone path).  How would something like this be achieved?  Is it postwork in photoshop or equivalent, or can be rendered from Daz directly?

Thank you for any help that can be provided.

  • I don't recall that promos can use postwork - should basically be a render. Interesting shadows in that image ...

You can use an image either as a "background" - or from a "draw dome" using a decent .hdr image, with well placed lights to render similar images.

  • Promos can usepostwork for overall tone adjustment and for elements that are not the product, it's just the product shots themselves that can't have targeted adjustments.

  • Right, I consider that basically a render.

I find the product a bit misleading anyway, because the images uses 3 different hair styles while only one is included in the bundle. The primary image of the product uses hair that is not included, but that seems to be common practice as I see that with a lot of products on the Daz store.

  • Thank you for the replies.

I was more interested in the shading used in this picture, it is more of an illustration style than a photographic style.  For comics, etc, I would prefer to use that illustraton style, and whilst I have made use of things such as the Oso Toon shader to some success, I would like something akin to this promo shot.  Is using a 'drawn' illustration style HDRI sufficient for that, or is there another shader which could be used?

    Thanks again.

While there is much talk about Iray rendering, there is also 3Delight rendering as well as some other options. Also from the hamburger menu I think it was, there's an option to show hidden, providing more rendering options for some of the selections. Maybe one of those options would work for you.

One can also apply any one or more of a variety of filters in their image editing program to make the appearance of paintings, coloring pages, etc. of the render.

I haven't tried this yet but it looks interesting:

You can achieve a similar look using the Nik Collection > Color Efex Pro > then playing with "Detail Extractor" OR the HDR Effect Pro.

Corel Painter 2021 has an AI effect that's similar called Soft Portrait
