Hey guys,

I've noticed in my smart content tab, all of my purchases are giving me the option to "install" them when they're already installed..

Why is this the case?

Thanks

That is because you are logging in to DS and DAZ Connect inside DS is telling you that the content is not installed with DAZ Connect (to another location, taking double the space on your drive)

If you are using DAZ Install Manager (DIM), DAZ Central or manual installation for your content, there is no reason to log in/sign in to DS

  • As long as the thumbnail is in colour the product is isntalled, but if it is isntalled through an external method and you have logged into your account through Daz Studio (which is entirely optional) then it will show as available for isntallation through Daz Studio. You would not usually want to install both ways, the files go to different places so it is duplicating the disc usage, and if you do isntall through Daz Studio the other instalaltion's files become redundant. It's up to you which method you use.

So I use Daz Central and I'm logged in.

I haven't installed anything twice, does this mean I can just leave the products as they are?

Yes, they will function without installing through Daz Studio. But if you are not going to install through Daz Studio there is really no reason to work online - even if you are going to install through Daz Studio you don't need to be permanently connected.

Yes, they will function without installing through Daz Studio. But if you are not going to install through Daz Studio there is really no reason to work online - even if you are going to install through Daz Studio you don't need to be permanently connected.

It connects online automatically, even when I disconnect it'll just reconnect everytime I boot it up. There's no harm in working online right?

That is because your DS preferences are telling DS to do so.

If you keep on logging into DS, DAZ keeps 'updating' your metadata, which increases the start-up time and can interfere with other things you do in DS (have seen logfiles where it updates metadata even while rendering), and you will continue seeing those "Install" icons on your products, these are still quite harmless, but when updating the metadata fails which it is known to do at times, it will prevent you from using those products that you have installed.

It updates the metadata on connecting - but the process is not modal, so if it takes a while it's quite possible for updates to be contonuing in the background while a render is proceeding. The background updating seems to have minimal impct on other aspects of the application's performance.

I'm assuming these updates are required at some point right?

Only if you are using Daz Studio to install, though they may be useful (or not) if they get you updates for the metadata.

I get asked to install G8F, but my icon is collored.

Does it say which files? That appears to be a Connect install anyway - there is no downloadable icon at top-right - and sometimes the instalaltion will fail entirely for some files (just 0 byte .part files are there).

OK, no it doesn't provide a file list when it knows which product the file(s) belong to. It's possible that the list, which does of coruse exist to work out which product(s) are involved, may be made available through an option in future.

Ohh damn, normally I use install manager, but I have also often used the update option in DAZ Studio....so that means I have hundreds of items installed twice! indecision

Is there a option to undo that?

  • If you installed the Default Filters for Install manager one of the options, when clicking the magnifying glass icon next to the filter field, is Connect Installed - so if you want to use the Connect version that should elst you find and remove the DIM version. if you want to use only the DIM versiontry seelcting al products in Daz Studio's Smart Content, right-click>Uninstall (that will affect only the Connect files, it won't remove the DIM files or the metadata).
