Prevent Parent Weight Map Sphere from affecting child

In this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIIM1oAan7o

...at 11:33, he shows the sash, and its obvious that the weight map for the top bone is extending into the region of the bottom bone.

Then at 12:51, he bends the first bone, and it does not affect, at all, the section of the second bone?!?

How does he do that...its sort of "skipped" in that video. Whenever the influence of the parent bone falls over into the child bone in my testing in the same way, it is affecting that area.

Any ideas how he keeps the region of the second bone static when the first bone rotates?

You would need to select and lock the polygons you don't want affected, using the Geometry Editor tool.

OK, I had selected all of the ones I don't want affected using the Geometry/Polygon tool, and did a "fill" of 0% for them using the weight map tool, with the parent bone selected (i.e. hoping to remove them from being affected by parent bones weight map)...but that did not work.

I just tried the Geometry Locking -> Lock Selected Polygons, for the other areas, and they still moved :(

In the same area that "...all selected are removed", I did a geometry lock, but I get the same results...I am going to start again from scratch on this, and see if I have something messed up.
