What about plugins in DS 4.8?

Genesis Generation X2 is not listed in DS 4.8.0.9

If you didn't have a prior beta when you installed GenX2, you need to uninstall and reinstall it with DIM, then it will be installed to both the release and the beta.

Yes I did it, but it didn't work

It does look like it's only installing to the general release. Let me see if I can find out why.

Did you find out anything? I can't get it to install in the 4.8 beta either. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the DIM. No luck, just like the OP.

I'm afraid the way it's programmed it will only work with the general release.

Do you expect it to work in the 4.8 general release?

I'm finding even my Mac version is crashing in the general release...

Yes, it won't be a problem when 4.8 is the general release, it's just incompatible with the need to keep the general release and beta from conflicting.

Thanks, that is good to know. I can use 4.7 for GenX until 4.8 is released.

    OK,

Getting GenX2 to work in DS 4.8 and fixing the missing stuff problems, here you go.

    (1) The plugins
The plugins are located in DAZ Studio/plugins and are named (on Mac OS X) d3dGenX2.dylib & d3dGenX.dylib.genx, they need to be copied to that location in the public Beta structure for DS.

    (2) In ~/Application Support/DAZ 3D/Studio4 is a folder named GenX2, copy that to the same place in the structure under Application Support/DAZ 3D/Studio4 Public Build

If you have fiddled with your content paths (which I had done), you can edit GenX.ini and edit the path lists there.

If you use windows you need to figure out where those directories are on Windows.

Totte, thanks for figuring this out and posting!
In Windows 7, I copied the following from DAZStudio4 to the corresponding DAZStudio4 Public Build:
    C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins\d3dGenX2.dll
C:\Users\Barb\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\GenX2 (whole folder; use your own user name, or course, not Barb)

Now GenX2 is working for me in DS 4.8 Beta.

I have read this thread over and over again and I have tried everything that it says to do, but I still can't get Gen X2 to show up in DS 4.8. nor DS 4.7. I tried copying the files from DS 4 to the beta in programs also doing the sme in the AppData. I tried uninstalling with the DIM and reinstalling with the DIM. Still nothing. What could I be doing wrong?

I figured it out. I saw in the windows tab that it says Gen X and thought it wasn't Gen X2, but it turns out it is.

Kerya pointed me here, thank you for this!

In the \plugins folder I also have install_genx2.bat and uninstall_genx2.bat (I'm on windows). Am I right to assume I don't need to copy these as well?

Thanks you thank you thank you. I had the same problem with both the 4.7 general build and the 4.8 public build.
thanks barbuld for telling those of windows what to do:
In Windows 7, I copied the following from DAZStudio4 to the corresponding DAZStudio4 Public Build:
    C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins\d3dGenX2.dll
C:\Users\Barb\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\GenX2 (whole folder; use your own user name, or course, not Barb)
(I actually only had to copy the dll, and all of a sudden there it was.)
Also thank you cecil30 for your comment.
Installing and reinstalling it didn't work, but this did fine. It looks like some new addons showed up there too that were in never never land until doing the above.

There is a Gexn2 update in the DIM. The DIM still doesn't install it to the Beta build, so after installing the update, copy the files again.

    Having issues with GenX2 ...

GenX - Loading figure: Victoria 4.2
    Loading figure file ...
    Resolving script calls ...
    Loading geometry file ...
    D:/DAZ/Poser/Runtime/Geometries/DAZPeople/blMilWom_v4b.obj
    Poser figure not supported.

Since it is looking for a Poser figure I find that kind of ironic!

I have not used it much, but I have managed to transfer Gen4 morphs forward, but now (with DS4.8, latest release version), I seem to be having issues!

Ok, ignore that - for some really bizarre reason I only had the Genesis 2 Update installed! ;)

Having same problem. Since updating to 4.8 public. GenX2 just won't work.
    I copied the Genx2.dll from C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins\ to C:\Users\Name\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\GenX2

But when it boots up it just shows load figure. Before it would show Genesis and Genesis 2.
    Am I missing something else?

Why do you need it in the beta version of Studio, just run it from the normal version.

  • edited December 1969

I was running normal not beta.
May try nerfing entire daz and reinstall.

    Public build is beta.

  • edited December 1969

Now I have to figure out how to get rid of it. Half my plugins don't work. 4.7 working fine then when it auto updated to 4.8. I find I no longer am running "normal" build but a beta. Sigh

What is the EXACT build you are running?

Go to Help > About DAZ Studio and post a screenshot of that box...

Tried the above steps to get GenX2 to work without success. Finally went into /DAZStudio4/plugins and removed the "d3dGenX.dll" and kept the "d3dGenX2.dll"  file which was already in the folder. Now GenX2 versions works. Apparently that old dll file from the original version was the culprit. Hope this helps some users with issues.

I know this is an old thread, but this problem popped up today on me. I haven't used GenX2 in a while, but I purchased a V4 character and wanted to convert her. I've done this on over a dozen characters, so I know the drill, but today, I get an error that that Victoria 4.2 is a figure that is not supported. V3 works fine, but not V4.

So, I completely uninstalled GenX2 and all the models for it. Then I re-installed them all. I'm thinking this should fix the problem.

    Nope.

I'm on a Mac, so I'm not sure a .dll fix will help since there aren't .dll files on a Mac.

    Any suggestions?

That's the exact problem I reported a while up in this thead. If you look in your "sourcre" menu, you have at least two V4 sources, and as Gen-X caches the sources and you moved your library config, one will point at the wrong location.

Try the other one o the "first on the list" (at the botton I think) and you're home. Or edit the ini file and remove the cached items.
