IM: Delete Package Once Installed

I am running out of space on my 1 TB drive because I have so many DAZ products installed.

There is an option on the Install Manager to

"[ ] Delete Package Once Installed"

Is it safe to do this on future installs? Will it free up a lot of space?

And how do I delete the packages on everything that has already been installed?

Is there a directory where all the packages are stored that I can simply wipe clean?

I have close to 1,000 installed products. So I'm thinking this could free up a considerable amount of space.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is safe to delete package once installed as you can always redownload it from DAZ.

To delete packages already installed go to users > Public > Public Documents > DAZ 3D > Installmanager > Downloads and delete the packages you no longer want. The amount of space you free up will be the amount of space the files in the Download folder take up. And yes this could be a fairly large amount of space.

    Thank you!

Can I delete everything in that folder?

And if I delete all the packages, it won't uninstall the products from DAZ Studio, correct?

Just want to double check I understand that correctly.

Strictly speaking, it won't free up any space, because it doesn't work retroactively. However, checking that will delete packages you install in the future, preventing them from taking up space they don't need to. Personally, I keep all my installers, because sometimes a product needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled, and the bandwidth to download it again costs more than storage space on my NAS. It's certainly useful if you're limited on storage space, though. And yes, you can delete the packages manually.

I checked the box on Install Manager so that it does not keep anything going forward.

For the products already installed, I will go in an manually delete them all from the Installmanager > Downloads folder so that I can free up the space.

Ideally I would love the keep them for the same reason you mentioned, but I have less than 25 GB left on my 1 TB drive and my system is not happy with this. wink

I read somewhere that you need about 150 GB of free space on a 1 TB drive for Windows to be able to defragment the disk. So that is my goal. Otherwise the disk file system just gets worse over time and things slow down.

I think it may be safer keeping at least the installa packages for previous versions of software (Daz program and plugins); that way, if you have problems with a newer one, you could still downgrade to older versions that worked. This opportunity can happen to be needed because when Daz releases software updates you can't download anymore the installers for the older versions (if you get really in trouble, you can open a support ticket asking they send you the old installer, but it's not granted that you'll always get it) .

  • Sorry, do not want to hijack the thread, but does this mean I can still find the install (.exe) file for my version of Daz Studio on my system? I checked C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads and it was empty.

If I reinstall my current Daz Studio version via the DIM (there is a reinstall option with right click), uncheck "[ ] Delete Package Once Installed" (where can I find this option?), should I be able to make a back up copy of the file?
