The best way to change genesis 8.1 skin color ? (darker)

Hi all,

I'm looking for a the "best" way to change genesis 8.1 skin color. I would like to color the skin more darker.

I tried the https://www.daz3d.com/ultimate-pbrskin-manager ; the result is not what I would expected, it seems so fake ... I don't want to do an Orc skin lol.

Maybe someoneelse can share his way of doing darker skin color on his genesis 8.1 skin.

Thanks in advance :)

Translucency Weight in surface shaders. The higher the number the darker, the lower the lighter. If that's not enough change the Translucencey color itself darker.

    Thank you @charles !

    It works !
I understand now why there are no skin darker plugin for 8.1, it's so easy to make it in surface tab (if you know where to look at :D)

I often use the Anakku model that comes with 4 different tan layers that can be applied onto most models. Looks better than messing with translucency. https://www.daz3d.com/anakku-for-genesis-8-female

To be precise. Translucency interacts both with diffuse and volume, so the more translucency the less diffuse and the more volume. If you use a white or pale diffuse and volume then yes, you can control with translucency. Otherwise the three of them contribute. That's how skin works.

    diffuse > translucency > volume

    Hi @Padone
Are you talking about "Diffuse Roughness" ?
Could you explain what this slider do, when I put it at max, I don't see much of difference. (Diffuse button is Enable).

I don't see the "volume" slider, maybe there's another name for this ?

Here is a portion of my render project to darker genesis 8.1 skin.
    I used this figure : https://www.daz3d.com/vyk-marty-for-victoria-81
I'm quite happy with the result (thanks to @charles explanation).

The problem I encountered is that the "map" (?) is not the same for the face and the body.
So I had to use a different color for the Translucency color for each part. If I don't do this, the face will turn way darker than the rest of the body.

@Padone : Maybe you have an idea of which slider I should use in order to get a more even color for body and face ?

    Thanks in advance

An alternate way to change base skin color is actually the "base color" (as the others said, translucency is tricky to master).

By diffuse I mean the base color in the diffuse section. By volume I mean the volume section with thin walled off. Below an example of skin driven only by the translucency color. As for Marty I can't help because I don't have that figure, but it's weird that the maps are different usually it isn't.

The diffuse roughness activates the oren-nayar shading that's more realistic than lambertian. But it's not a big difference with most materials so it's not usually used.

Thank you for the clarification everyone.

I'll play a little bit with base color in conjonction with the translucency color to smooth the transition between skin color body parts.

I'll just go with the flow between the two (translucency and base color) until I'm satisified by the results ^^

    Cheers

Sue in some circumstances that is the better choice.
