R.I.P Michael Lee Aday - Meat Loaf

And we lost another Icon - Meat Loaf - 2022-01-20. Best known for playing Eddie on the Rocky Horror Picture Show and his masterfull performances of Jim Steinman's epic rock mini-operas on the albums Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell.

    Sad news indeed, he also did a brilliant character in Fight Club.

    BTW his name was Marvin not Michael.

    Ooops - Kinda. CNN and wikipedia listed him as Michael. Being inherently lazy, I went with wikipedia rather than going to the other room to check the CDs.

    My favorites from Meat were Steinman's mini-operas and "Life is a Lemon" - I kept Bat Out of Hell in the car CD player for most of a year.

    I remember that it was sort of unfashionable for we supposed rock enthusiasts to admit to enjoying Bat Out of Hell and the "serious" rock journalists were quick to be dismissive - more about Steinman than Meat Loaf. But, hell, I bought it within a day of hearing it (I also admitted to liking Bonnie Tyler singing Total Eclipse). The vinyl soon got worn out but I later bought the CD when they appeared. I bet those journalists who rubbished it back then are not admitting to it now. Absolute classic.

    We know/knew personally 12 people who died from it, two on one memorable day in Jan 2021. Since widespread vaccinations occurred in this part of the UK, we've had no further friends added to the list of the dead. No more deaths of friends since May 2021. So nice not to be mourning another friend. The only people we know who have gone into hospital with it recently, at risk of their lives, have been unvaccinated.

    I listened to Meatloaf sing again & it's easy to see how he made that Bat Out of Hell rock opera so popular. The man could sing much more than your average singer could sing.
