Really? No one?
There has to be a way to do this.
Perhaps a bit more explanation of what you are wanting rather than a bump.
Ok, I can explain.
Genesis 2 comes with nifty Surface Selection Sets.. Default Templates (which really ought to be named SOMETHING MEANINGFUL, like: face, torso, limbs, eyes), Legacy Surfaces and Skin.
I like to use my own groupings for Face and Body, and probably other things if I can get this to work,
Probelm is: I create a set of my own, but it only seems to exist in that scene file.
I want to alter Genesis 2 to permanently include my Surface Selection Sets and maybe any changes I make to the Defaults (to make them a little more meaningful). IE: any timeI load Genesis2 into a scene, my Surface Selection Sets are available.
hmmm..... I probably have to save a custom character or something. Less than an ideal solution, but I suppose I could work with it if its the only way to do it.
It would be great to do this for Genesis, too. Maybe even Mike 4, who I still sometimes use.
Is there a way to do this?
I'm not sure. Check that there aren't any changes you don't want to become default and hit File>Save as>Support Assets>Save Modified Assets; does the list of items that will be saved include the Surface Selection Sets?
That yielded No Modified Assets.
Saving a custom figure did achieve the desired results.
The problem with that is that it won't pick up new morphs, uv sets and so on for the base figure.
Well, that's not good.
I love the functionality, I want to add it to all the figures I use.
There ought to be a way.
I guess its fine for static figures like M4, I've been meaning to savemyown options on him for the longest time, just never got around to it.
Maybe you could ask those in the know, Richard?
The suggestion was to try saving a character preset and use that, rather than one of the DAZ or PA presets, to load the figure. That won't update saved scenes but it will allow you to load or apply the surface sets to figures in future.
Ha!
This is a totally unsupported method and any update to the base content will overwrite it...but you can permanently change the selection set by hacking the dsf file. Before doing any edits, make a backup copy of the dsf, that way you won't have to reinstall the base content if something goes wrong.
This is for G2F. Somewhere around line 42946 is the start of the 'material_selection_sets'. Scroll down from there and find the "Default Templates" section.
The original 'Skin' template...
{
"name" : "Skin",
"materials" : [ "Ears", "Face", "Feet", "Forearms", "Hands", "Head", "Hips", "Legs", "Neck", "Nipples", "Nostrils", "Shoulders", "Torso" ]
}
My edit...
{
"name" : "Skin",
"materials" : [ "Ears", "Face", "Feet", "Forearms", "Hands", "Head", "Hips", "Lips", "Legs", "Neck", "Nipples", "Nostrils", "Shoulders", "Torso" ]
}
Yes, the comma is needed between each item.
And yes, after starting up Studio and loading G2F, clicking on the Skin template now includes 'Lips'!
Yes, the fact that it would have to be redone after any update that reinstalled the base files (even if the update was some other file in Starter Essentials) was the main reason I didn't suggest simply trying to save over the top of the existing files - though I don't know if it would have fully worked anyway.
But a renamed copy won't be replaced...so that would probably be the better way to go.
