No Mac DAZ models?

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

Other than the very limited and functionally barely usable Genesis Male and Female models (hardly any clothes, 1 male hair) in Daz 3D Studio v4.7, are there ANY Mac models out there, free or otherwise?

I tried a simple free shirt/shorts of males just to see how to import 3D files, I wanted something free and DAZ requests my home address and then it arrives loaded with .EXE files just for PC.

1. Why even make a Mac version of 3D studio if there is no models (including actions, accessories, hair, poses, etc.)?

2. And why do you need my address if I'm not using a credit card?

I wouldn't spend $.02 on a file if I must gamble on it being compatible.

There are Mac versions of everything too, I know plenty Mac users.
    are you using DIM?
I guess you do not HAVE to give your home address if it bothers you
I have only needed it when I had stuff posted to me which I have.

If you're using DAZ install manager to download your purchases check that Mac files are selected in the "download filters". It should be relevant mostly for programs, but can't hurt for content.
You should also be able to download any content you bought from the "Product library" section in "My account", there you will have buttons to manually download all the product files.

The billing address appears on invoices, which is probably why it is required by the e-commerce software DAZ uses.
If you really don't want to give them your address just put a dummy one.
Be aware though that DAZ might use that address some day: when they introduced 3D printing DAZ sent a printed model to a few users as a gift, for example, and used their account address for that.

    Greetings,
Huh. I use a Mac, and I have on the order of 250GB of content, 90+% of it from the store here. Never really noticed a problem...

In early 2012, there were a few things that were harder to install, but filing a ticket got them fixed, usually. Once Daz Install Manager came into the picture, though...everything just works.

You can download zip files from your Product Library, if you don't want to use DIM, but I strongly encourage using it. It makes life easier, and that's what computers are supposed to do.

p.s. I just read your other thread, and folks tried to help you set up the Install Manager, but you dropped out of the thread. I notice in both threads you sound really upset. I understand frustration, computers are exceptionally good at meting it out (see: 'what computers are supposed to do' above) but it's much easier if you go with the flow in how things want to be installed, and make sure that both DAZ Studio and Install Manager are pointing to the same spot for content installs.

I was able to port over pretty much all of my Daz library on my Mac using DIM which is I also have installed on my PC for consistency.

Daz Studio content isn't Operating System dependant, most content is similar to a jpg file as it will work on any platform that has an application that supports the file type. In this case it's Daz Studio.

3rd party applications in the store may be for either Windows or Mac or both. But either way it will be clearly marked on the product page in the store.

Feel free to be more specific as to the nature of your issue, as it seems there is a wealth of folks here willing to help you out with it.

While it may not be operating system dependent, it is file system 'picky'. Due to the mish-mash of file names, a case sensitive file system will create problems. Especially of the 'not found' type as there will be many duplicated folders.

I think you're a little confused. Either download the files with DAZ's installer or download the ZIP files not the EXE files. The DAZ Installer will install directly into your Studio folder. Also you can unzip to you Studio folder.

  • I have read about the issue of no Mac models such as Michael, that is why I have never downloaded Daz 3D. I came here to see if it has changed and everyone got off topic. All I want is a way to know I am downloading a Mac verision before I spend the money and then try to wrestle Daz for a refund if you send me .exe Michael files.

Working with a friend on his Mac, it appears Daz is just as insane as Adobe with their file organization; they, both, appear to be old-school MS Windows programmers; very case and (often hidden) location sensitive.

I don't know what to do. There is no "Mac or MS Windows" selector while ordering. I feel it will default to Windows, thus no purchase or Daz on my Mac.

  • All content works on mac as well as Windows, as do sahders and scripts. Only plug-ins and applications have platform-specific versions, for which you will need to read the product page to see which are supported (if it's Windows only there wil be a note).

That is because there is only Mac and Windows versions of the program itself...there are no Mac or Windows version of the content.  The contect doesn't matter which it is installed on.

I have a MacBook Pro that I sometimes use to demo DS.  I have a separate Daz account for it that has never spent any money (part of the demo is "you don't have to break the bank for pretty pictures").  Everything was installed with the default target locations with DIM, and everything works, including Michael 4 and his morphs (which were in a free bundle, I think Superhero Pro, last May).

Some of the content is in what might be unexpected places due to Poser-compatible directory structures, but at least nowadays, using a Mac is not particularly problematic.
