Organization question

I have a ton of product, and 3rd party product that doesn't show up in "Smart Content" or Content Library "products" So I have to search for them in "MyDazLibrary" . After doing this for a very long time I pretty much know how to find whatever I need easily. However, I would like to organize my files so I can find all clothes, poses, hair, material for M4 in one category, and the same for V4 and so on. Now I seen a tutorial on categories on Youtube. But I want to look at all possibilities before investing a lot of time and effort to create, categories. Does anyone know of a great way, product or method to organize product? Thank you so very much in advance for feedback and help!!

I use categories, and I categorize everything using my own system, even Smart Content. I used to organize things years ago by moving/renaming the files and folders on disk, but now I use categories for several reasons:
1) it's easier to rearrange things if I make refinements to my system or change my mind
2) I can categorize an item in multiple categories where appropriate
3) I can combine DS-format and Poser-format files in the same category without using tricks
4) there's no danger of breaking something by moving it to the wrong place
Adamr001 has a template for categories here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/15192/
I have my own preferences for how to do things, also, if you want suggestions.
I regularly Export User Data, so in case of emergency like a hard drive crash I can easily restore my categories.
Thank you for the information. I think that is the route I am going to take. The link is very helpful too! Thank you
You shouldn't add non DAZ content to your MyDazLibrary, make new libraries for other content sources, i.e. MyRenderosityLibrary or MyShareCGLibrary and map them in Studio's Content Directory Manager.
DIM installs to My DAZ 3D Library and I install all non-DIM items to My Library which is on an external drive. Unless there is a glaring error I leave it wherever it is installed.
In Studio I use Categories which I fill mainly using Defaut>Unassigned.
I have my 3rd party items in a different folder. But I started organizing my files in "Categories" and it is coming out perfect once I got the understanding of how it works. I have a ways to go because I have a ton of products, but I am very satisfied on how this is working out. I think once I have completed this I will post a tutorial on youtube. Thanks for the feedback it is much appreciated!
