Computer issues... blue screens .... Win 8.1

Hi,

New computer, only a couple of months old. All of a sudden I'm getting blue screens when the boot is about finished and I'm about to get my log on screen. I THOUGHT it might be my external HD but there are instances that if I have it off during boot time it will still do that.

I've run a defrag
I've run Check Disk on both the main computer and the external, all showing healthy drives.

I'm not sure what else to check.

Any idea or advice as to what to do to investigate this further?

Thanks much

Richard

    Is there an error message?

Can you boot into Safe Mode without problems? Most likely there's a driver or program causing the blue screen issue.

You should run virus and an anti-malware scans, just to be safe.

Check your RAM, I had a similar issue on a new machine I'd built. Showed up to be a defective RAM stick.

It was tricky for Memtest86+ which people usually recommend did not find the problem despite several long tests. Then I looked for a program to test the rest of the hardware, and found PC-Doctor Toolbox. Ran the Memory Stress Test and it reported RAM problems immediately. Replaced the bad stick and everything was fine.

It's a very cool program, it can test all your hardware and cost very little.

Great, thanks so much. Ordered the PC Doctor.... I'll see what it's says. Very affordable!

Did run anti virus and all that, gotta clean system according to the readings.........

OK. Ran the scan. It DID find the issues... It seems my bluetooth drivers are causing the issue. I pulled out the bluetooth dongle from one USB port and plugged it into a new port to see if it would reinstall the drivers. Didn't. I see no way to force the drivers to be reinstalled. Can't believe such a tiny device can cause so much issue. WOW!

    Suggestions?

Running a full virus scan as that's on the list... I usually just do a quickie but perhaps a full one is needed.

external devices have caused event Bluescreen for me more than once.
my most recent one being switching to Morphvox on Skype during an active voice call with Microphone on, will NOT try THAT again

try checking the manufacturer's website for your Bluetooth device for drivers and tech support

You could try to delete the Bluetooth entries in Device manager and then reboot, that's usually what you do with USB to fix problems.

I have no experience with Bluetooth though, so do so at your own risk....

OK. Will try uninstalling via the device manager. Good idea.

Virus scan is complete. No threats. Stealth!
