Yes.
Looks like I got sucked in again by the great promo render, the reason I usually am prompted to get most daz items is the redners look so great, you would think after years I would hav elearned my lesson,
I have written here for better advice and to artists individually as well, ai recently saw a video where he was showing how the promos may have had postwork done to them or rendered in a different program even, I gyess that is what must be going on as I have never been able to achieve anywhere near the ncie effect as I see on the promo images
this render of mine is boring enough that I may never open the product up again, I must only use only 15% of all the stuff I bought form daz if that-the reason is always the same-promos look great so I buy it, mine look flat and boring in comparison so inmmay cases it just adds on to the large pile of more wasted money, too bad I am addicted, a daz shop-a holic
sorry image didnt load, here is a link

The promo image in your comparison picture has been rendered in Poser 8 with Poser materials and lights.
You're using the set in DS. Did you use the DS materials? What lighting did you use? Are you rendering in Iray, which most likely would require adjusting the lights and materials since they were made for 3DL?
For example, the stones which look flat morst likely use displacement in the poser render. If you didn't use the DS materials then DS won't have loaded the displacement maps at all as it doesn't read complex parameters from poser materials. And if you're using the set in Iray you most likely need to up the subdivision level so there are enough polygons to apply the displacement.
I dint change materials to Iary but when I do it wont make too much of a diffrence,
Im using no hdri with enviornment set low and one bright distant spotlite
Also want to add that usually or at least sometimes Poser sets redner better for me or just as good as the daz ones do
In this case, since the product page mentions displacement maps starting from poser or DS materials will definitely make a difference, as DS reads only very basic material settings from poser materials. It is also likely to make a difference for metal or glass parts of the set, for example.
And good lighting is very important if you want your render to look good, not just materials. Not sure what kind of poser lights the set included but there's most likely more than just a distant light.
OK let me try it when there is time and I'll post the results,
I've been using just one distant lite as it giving better results than multiple ones up close,
would you be able show me some rendered images that you have done here please?
I've always thought it's a nice set, and the organ is fully rigged. Well worth the money...
Not saying it is not great, the render in the promo is real good-I saved the image as I do any great render I see-with older sets sometimes the surfaces wil lrender nice for me, I was hoping this one would
first image is sci fi room another old product without the modern shaders but here it looks nice and believeable-compared to second image where the organ room wall and stones seem faded out, not crispw the promo- I converted to iray and applied whatever i could find in the set but none made a difference

(daz would not upload it here)
the final image is a freebie , https://ibb.co/m9w2RL6 these stones look so crisp that any level user will get a good result, I do not know too much about 3d modeling but I often wonder why all models are not like the stones where it just pops out, that is what I ove about Iray promo renders when they pop out on account of theior crispness - I was hoping a similar thing would happen with the organ room like these stones, sometimes I get lucky, I'd rather be able to redner like the promos, I have asked many times for advice but always only helps improve my renders never gets them to have that crispness the promo do
even though faded out the model though does look cool enough that I'd like to use it anyway, may be have her appearing from the stars in a little animation, but if any render isnt crisp then it really doesnt fool the eye to thinking it is seeing an actual 3d world-the skin on genesis scifi figure that I tweaked I am happy with though-not as good as a promo but I am still happy with it
use the link protocol in the forum software if you don't want extra ; added to it breaking it
Wendy sorry, what does it mean?
if you don't want extra ; added to it breaking it
The link tou your images has a ";" after it in the text, and it ends up with extra characters in the link so it doesn't work.
ie https://ibb.co/D5DwXTH ends up as ibb.co/D5DwXTH%C2%A0
Probably not of any help, as I use 3DL, but found this old-ish render. I just used the existing built in candles and ceilinglights to lite up the place.
It's bueatiful, thanks for showing it. If I could render like that I'd be a happy camper.
is it diffiicult to set the scene so it renders just like that in 3dL - With Iray I cannot get the same results as a promo, but mayhbe with 3dl-
the render is perfect, are you are professional or jus tsomeone who has been at this a long time or could you render like that right off the bat in 3dl on account of it neing more sinplistic than Iray?
I haven't tried too many times but also never got good results with 3dl, with Iray sometimes I can make it look good but have no idea how to in 3dl.
I'm open to learning all about how to make iray renders look better but like I said all the advice I have gotten hasn't made my renders look like promos but if 3dl is easier and I can actually get that same effect without doubt please let me know. Thanks
the DAZ forum is also playing up for me trying to post this
