I have COVID

I had COVID -- presumably omicron -- a few weeks ago. I felt terrible for about a week, with severe flu-like symptoms. Among other things, I had a bad cough and a brutal sore throat. I found honey-and-lemon (hot water with honey and lemon in it) soothing, and night-time Theraflu helped me sleep at night (I've been told that day-time Theraflu, which is a slightly different product, is less good, because while it reduces the symptoms, it can delay the healing process). And, as always, rest is the key to recovery.

Keep an eye on the whole "passing out" thing. I am not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to happen. Checking your oxygen levels with a pulse oximeter is good, but may be less essential with this variant. According to the rather questionable oximeter built into my cheapo 'smart' watch, my levels stayed above 97% the whole time; this may be because omicron affects the upper respiratory tract, instead of settling in in the lungs, like earlier variants. But make sure your doctor is taking you seriously, because losing consciousness for any reason is a significant warning sign.

    Feel better!

    Get well soon!

Four of my relatives contracted Covid-19 (Omicron) over Christmas, and they were quickly recovered. This is despite the fact that they are all different ages (11, 32, 45 and 57).

Forcing people to eat together in a closed room right now is ... well, a little risky. Good thing you got the doctor's note!

  • I hope you get better soon, my friend. I will be praying for you. smiley

Take it easy, rest, keep lots of Kleenex handy.

I think I had it a few weeks ago.  I'd been shot twice and boosted, but I either had Covid or one hell of a cold.  I went through typical cold symptoms for about 5 days, then as it wound down, I became a major phelgm factory, hacking up gobs every few minutes.  It's been about two weeks now and I'm almost back to normal.  Also, aches, joint pain, fatigue, grogginess, swolen lymph nodes, generally blah.no  I wasn't fully disabled during the illness and did a reduced version of my typical household stuff, but I was attached to a box of Kleenex, and it was running out.frown  So, I'd ordered a case (6 big 250count boxes) of Kleenex from Amazon but it got lost in shipment (I hope the train robbers needed Kleenexangry).  Had to break down and have someone bring me a couple boxes to tide me through until the reorder appears.

It never got to the point where I felt apprehensive, but I was watching to see if there was a sudden downturn.  I hate to imagine the results if I had not had the shots.

I moved to a new senior citizen apartment building 2 months ago. Everything considered, everything was fine, until this week. On Monday, I started feeling ill. I didn't go down for lunch yesterday or today.

Our apartment building manager came up with a rapid COVID test. I have COVID. I assume it's the Omicron variant. I'm in quarrantine. If the symptoms get worse I'll consider seeing a doctor.

B-complex + Vitamin C + Zinc or food containing those. Acetaminophen if there is pain. No antibiotics until your doctor says so. Water and rest.

I had covid twice the past year.

I wish you to recover quickly.

Thanks again, everyone for your responses I am feeling a bit more joint pain today. My head has felt like it is on fire for years.... It just feels worse now. I cough a little. I haven't slept for a few days.

I have decided I will no longer eat lunch with my neighbors. I don't have a doctor's note yet. I moved to a different city and still haven't signed up for a new doctor. I did my laundry the other day, and realized my COVID vaccination card had been shredded in the laundry. So far, 2022 has been the worst year of my life.

Yes, I had a problem last year since there was a shortage of the vaccine type I had for the first shot, so I couldn't get the 2nd there. The place I got the 2nd took the card I got for the first and didn't give it back. Nor did they give me any documentation on the shot they gave me.

Made getting the booster an issue since they wouldn't give it to me without the documenttion. I finally had to go to the county health Department website and print their records from it. It wasn't as bad a maze as it could have been.

I thought the first computer bugs were biological, but at the time they didn't have the Internet to spread beyond the infected machine.

I'm not a doctor so don't take it that way, You need to get to the Dr and not wait another day. My son got it at the very beginning while he was away at college in DC. He texted us and said he was running just shy of a 103F temp. His body hurt all over to the point he couldn't move barely. He wasn't capable of even getting out of bed to get a drink of water because it was too far away from his bed and was worried about collapsing. He had a very hard time breathing. We didn't get the text right away and instead saw it a few hours later and texted him several time with no response and called a dozen times with no answer so we called campus police to do a wellness check on him. They got there and had an ambulance come and he got taken to the hospital. They did all the test they could think of and found nothing so they called it an unknown virus. This was before the COVID test came out. Once they came out and were able to do the antibody test it showed he had it. That was very very scary for us. Don't let anyone go through that worrying about you. GO TO THE DOCTOR!

I'd also advise seeing a doc, I don't think you need to be picky right now, just about anyone close by will do I guess. It's a serious illness, like you said yourself, and some things unfortunately have a habit of sneaking up on you, and you don't realize you're in real trouble until it's almost too late. I've caught something a few years ago that I thought was just my typical December bronchitis, I even went to work as there were exams scheduled and I was one of the examiners. I didn't want to let anybody down and not make a fuss. I came home that night with uncontrollable shivers, couldn't get warmed up no matter what and still thought I only needed to sleep it off. Next day, I was coughing my lungs out, and when my partner finally dragged me to the doctor, it was double-sided pneumonia, so bad that the doc said he could 'see it from the door' on the x-ray film. He didn't even let me go home anymore. Had to get hospitalized right away, with oxygen and all that, and still took literal weeks until I could properly breathe again.

So really do take care, especially when you start to feel just a little short of breath, these things can develop so stealthily! Don't be brave or 'no trouble', make sure someone professional knows how you're getting on.

    Fun fact, the first computer bugs were indeed insects...  It looks like the first one was a moth;

I was so tired of feeling sick. I called "911." The ambulance attendants checked my vitals, and said I didn't need to be hospitalized. I am disappointed, but have to agree with them.

Thanks for your support, everyone. I had my first two COVID shots, but didn't get the booster shot.

I moved to the new apartment building on December 3. They require all residents to eat lunch together. We add that payment to the rent payment. I almost certainly got COVID from eating lunch with my neighbors. I've decided to get a note from my doctor so I won't need to eat lunch with everyone.

I'm still exhausted from my move. I planned to wait till spring before I got a new doctor. I had moved to a new city.

Right now, the most significant symptoms are a feverish feeling (temperature is normal!), and upper respiratory congestion, coughing, etc. I am exhausted but can't sleep. I do pass out sometimes, and am out for a short period. Oh, yeah a couple times I coughed so hard I almost passed out.

...I just got my third the other day.  Difficult to find a health centre which offers the boosters as I have a few underlying matters and an allergy that requires more extended observation afterwards that a corner chemist's isn't set up for.   As is felt a little out of it late Wednesday night through ttoday but nothing serious. Have a bunch of N-95s (the real ones).  If you can Check yoir local chemist's as I understand they are giving out free onew beginning Friday.

Trying to remain independent as along as I can as it's so much easier to limit contact with others in situations like these.

As I have chronic bone and joint pain I probably wouldn't notice the difference, but oddly what I felt Wednesday evening and all through the next day seemed like some sort of low grade flu bug as I was coughing up a storm Wednesday evening for a while and Thursday just felt bleah all over.  Felt a bit tired (even after a decent night's sleep)  so took an afternoon nap and seemed a little better afterwards but still have a slight scratchy throat and the gut continues to be displeased.  Need to get some ginger beer (NA) tomorrow to help with both.

Take care, take it easy and get better.

after reading some of the reactions, I got past my second shot relatively unscathed.

It really shows how varied peoples metabolism and physical makeup are and why medicine relies so much on monitoring vitals.

I did react more than my initial shot, headaches and vomiting for a day afterwards amd general lethargy for a week but all said that was rather mild compared to many, I too dread to see what the virus would do to me.

I also would not want to face it unvaccinated so Ron just be grateful you took the precautions, many otherwise healthy younger people didn't and are no longer with us. broken heart

  • Hang in there I had it it sucks think I lost 10 lbs thats the only thing that was good, but a man with the same first name as me Ron you will be ok. Later....

Hey everyone. I actually got a short sleep this morning. I lay around trying to get back to sleep, but got up when my stomach started growling.

This experience taught me some things. Yes, you need to get your COVID shots, including the booster. But you can't rely solely on the shots. You can catch COVID even if you're immunized. You need to get tested on a frequent basis if possible.

I'm feeling a tad bit better today, but remain physically and emotionally drained. I plan on spending lots of time in bed.

Good to hear Ron! Hopefully you are the way to recovery.

You are correct, you can still get it even with the vaccine. I lost an aunt that was fully vaccinated last year with no serious underlying conditions, that and my extensive research is why I choose not to be.

    Take care buddy!

    Ron Knights,

The experiences folks have shared here remind me of the time a year ago when I was likely exposed to CV-19. This was before vaccines, or any clear understanding about the nature of the virus or its modes of infection. Lethargy and the undeniable need to sleep -- that's what I remember. I immediately quarantined myself in the guest room and set aside utensils for my meals.

It use to be I couldn't be bothered with the flu vaccine. But once the kids were born, particularly after they started going to school (aka the CDC -- the "childrens disease center" -- as my doctor friend wryly called it), I got the shots regularly. Not just to protect myself but to the protect the young ones as well. I noticed a difference before-vs-after: though I'd still stand the chance of getting the flu every winter, it wasn't a 100% certainty anymore; when I did fall ill, I'd recovered much faster compared to the days when I never got the shot at all. Thanks to the shots, I could live with risk of getting the flu.

In another lifetime, I spent my childhood in the tropics, with its witches' brew of microbes and infections ushered in every year by the sweltering climate and by swarms of insects and vermin. Vaccination drives effectively drove the infection rate down -- not to zero, but down to levels that society could manage. One quickly learn to respect Mother Nature's lethal side. One is also reminded about the touch-and-go of our own mortality.

Life is short. Period. And health is wealth. After one passes one's prime years, it's all about bodily maintenance and managed senescence.

Stay safe and get well soon.

    Cheers!

  • We take a regiment high dose of vitamin D along with vitamin C powder mixed into our water and an enhanced zinc lozenges ( which no matter how they are flavored they still taste crappy). My doctor says that many don't know the importance of Vitamin D many illness are linked to low vitamin D levels.  This is true of those in winter because the amount sunshine is low and people don't get outdoors like in the warmer months. Be well and you are in my prayers for a quick and easy recovery.

Glad to hear that you're getting better, and yes, getting the shots is vital. That Omicron version of Covid runs havoc in Germany right now and only having taken three shots can keep people from experiencing the often severe or even lethal consequences. Nearly all of the people in the emergency case units of hospitals needing extern respiration are from the unvaccinated part of the population. And all disease specialists around here agree that sooner or later everbody will get infected with Covid, but the shots make the difference between a severe to deadly or a less severe infection...

I got my booster shot in mid-december already and my wife had her's, too, and neither of us had any symptoms except the part of the arm where the shot was applied feeling a bit sore for two or three days, like it was bruised... We both got the Biontech vaccine for the first two shots and the Moderna one for the third, which is supposed to be advantageous from some studies have shown...

I might have covid too.  Sore throat, head ache, body aches, runny nose, no temperature though.  Worst part is that I have a heart condition that makes my health more delicate for lack of a better word.  Gonna see if I can get an appointment with the doctor soon.  Get well soon!

The vaccine isn't a cure all. It just makes it so you have less of a likelihood of getting it but if you do it "shouldn't" be a case that requires hospitalization and much more mild. I'm adamant on taking Vit D, E and C supplements. I also get the flu shot every year because I have COPD and it I even get a sniffle it automatically turns into bronchitis and I can't breath. I already suffer from oxygen deprivation so, I don't need any outside help. I haven't had the flu in so long I can't remember the last time I got it. I also get the pneumonia shot every 5 years for the same reason. The only thing I do get is sinus problems.

My Auntie and Uncle tested positive a couple of weeks ago. We were worried about my Auntie, because she's not well at the best of times. But she's really bounced back from it.

I wish you a speedy recovery, sir.
