Putting old content on a new computer
Hi everybody,
After two years of not using DazStudio at all, I finally decided to buy a decent computer and put all my old DAZ3d stuff on it.
But seeing as DazStudio has changed about ten times since I last used it, I was wondering if it will still work…
Keep in mind here that I know jack about computers. I just find out what I need to know, but that's a whole lot different than understanding it...
I want to keep all my old models (some I’ve made myself) so I have to copy the content folder and the appdata folder. I guess.
All my old stuff worked in Daz Studio 3. But now I’ve installed version 4.7 on the new computer. And according to you guys, I have to copy the AppData file as well. Since the file is named “DazStudio3” and I have 4.7, I wonder if that will work.
So, do I deinstall 4.7, instal 3, put all the old stuff on there, and after that upgrade to 4.7 again? Is that nessecary? Do I need to do something else?
Thanks so much for your help!
Kind regards,
Kim

All you should need to do, is to enter the path to your content folder in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, in BOTH DAZ Studio Formats AND Poser Formats.
If you content is in a folder called 'Content', then supply the path to that folder in both formats. That should make your content appear in the Content Library pane.
If the content you have has been around for a while, then you would be as well using the DIM (DAZ Install Manager) to download the latest versions from your product library, and place it all in the new location that DIM uses (My DAZ 3D Library). It will get you the updated items as they appear, and keep track of what you have installed.
Try entering the paths to your content first, to see if it responds correctly. The one folder that really needs to be there for saved scenes to work, is the 'data' folder which should already be inside content.
As JimmyC says.
If you still have your old Daz setup, make a note of all your paths in the Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, in BOTH DAZ Studio Formats AND Poser Formats. and enter them in your new Daz setup.
Making sure that you change or keep the Drive names correctly too.
Thank you both so much!!!
I did what you said and it's finally working! :D
You have made me a very, very happy person!
Yay :D :D :D
