Whatever Happened to Urban Sprawl 1 ???

So there's Stonemason's Urban Sprawl 2 and Urban Sprawl 3 - but what happened to the original set?  I could have sworn I saw it when I first joined DAZ a year ago...

That was withdrawn by Stonemason himself quite a few years ago. He felt it was much lower quality than what he could achieve now, and so did not feel comfortable having it as one of his products for sale. Damages the brand one might say.

I have attached the main promo shot. Personally I think it is better than some of the stuff that appears today from other vendors, but it is still not a touch on the later Urban Sprawls. I picked it up when he announced it was going, and it was offered for a cheap price. Not sure I have ever used it, since I have the later versions.

I think its a shame as to me, there is no set that even comes close to giving you the grit and grime of urban neighborhoods like Urban Sprawl.  All of his early sets are amazing in that aspect.  Check for The Backstreets & Tin Pan Alley as possible alternatives.  City Courtyard is also an amazing set, but as in its name, its an inner courtyard.  No sidewalk, streets, etc.  None are nowhere near the size, but definitely similar feels.

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks, guys, that's really interesting.  Especially the product pic - it does look comparatively primitive.  And yes, got one or two of his older pieces, MJ007, very good.

...indeed I have it and used it in a number of scenes.  Also have the old Warehouse District which I believe was also pulled.

These (using both) are still two of my favourites:

Have any of you got renders of Urban Sprawl 1 and old Warehouse District in your galleries that you could point me to?

I'm curious as to what they look like; the only images that come up in searches are the size of postage stamps.

That's just how old it is, back then they were high resolution full screen images

According to my product library the download for Urban Sprawl was only 15mb. Back then it was probably pushing my internet connection to download it.

Same here, I have all three of them.. I use Urban Sprawl 2 more often, but if I need a lower level skyline Urban Sprawl 1 is great for that.. smiley

Thanks for the images and video. It's helped me answer my question. At least partially.
I've seen a scratch built scene and I know the artist used Urban Sprawl 2 for part of it, but I couldn't work out what the other part was, having seen the small images of the original Urban Sprawl I thought they may have used a building from that. The images have proven that that isn't the case.

The main reason I'm trying to work it out is for fan art. This particular location would be great for working out the characters heights.
